I literally cannot understand log cabin republicans.

Like.

Seriously. I can only assume they hate themselves; and I wish somebody in their lives would tell them that they don't have to.

Are they really a real group? Or is it just like rich 150 people who give a shitload of money to make it look like it is coming from many more people?

Has anyone actually met one before ?

I've definitely met gay men who hate other gay men that they think "act gay," and they're pretty much always racist and incredibly misogynistic, too. I can see them thinking they're different and special enough that the leopards won't eat their faces. And then they usually cry about it when no one wants to sleep with them.

To be clear, I haven't met that many, but as a queer woman, the LGBTQ+ community is sadly not immune to being as shitty as any other. I had to specify no fucking TERFs on my last dating profile.

Ah yes I believe they usually say "I don't mind other gay people but I wish they wouldn't make it their identity. You don't see me flaunting my sexuality"

The best thing about the queer community is that they are just like us and any other community and every community has their shit bags.

I'm just always extra sad when I see Republican women / queer folk, because they are actively hurting their own community. Being a woman and voting to have a rapist have a say over your body is just mind boggling to me.

[-] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

I think it’s best to not think of them as hurting their own community but rather as intentionally spurning community with those with whom they share experiences. There are queer republicans who are just the idiots, but for these types it really feels like they’re angry about being different and have decided to take it out on those who have built community around those traits.

I’m reminded of Roy Cohn who insisted he wasn’t a homosexual because homosexuals are weak and pitiable, it didn’t matter that he exclusively had sex with men, he saw no issue in purging the queer people from the government

They've been around awhile. During the pre-MAGA, "friends across the aisle" times I could see the value of creating a group that generally aligns with the Republican platform (low taxes, small government, etc.) but supports gay rights and pushes for progress on that issue from within the party.

Today though, anti-LGBT sentiment is so strong within the party that it's hard to understand why the Log Cabin Republicans continue to exist, especially when they are openly shunned by the party.

They identify more with their bank , than their spank bank

[-] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

More than that they resent the fact that as queer people they’re expected to be democrats. And rather than getting mad at the republicans for being the reason for that they get mad at the democrats over it. They’re contrarian assholes

[-] Got_Bent@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

Have you ever met a gay dude who makes a ton of money?

I know several, and let me tell you that money changes people regardless of which tab they prefer to insert into which slot. They become everything that any other rich person becomes except that they like to fuck their own kind.

At that level of wealth, so far, the money supersedes the sexual preference because, you know, money. The sex stuff is, so far, just seen as eccentric.

[-] mriguy@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

Rich people know that laws don’t apply to them. Log Cabin Republicans probably figure that Republican policies will benefit them financially, and their wealth will insulate them from any practical inconvenience from the anti-LGBT policies. Sure, it will make life unbearable for millions of people, but those people aren’t them, so who cares? I don’t think it’s any more complicated than that.

They can't cum unless it's illegal.
