When I was younger and a bit more of a lib, I thought it was extremely odd that Chinese people don't know or care about the tank man. It's actually really weird that I knew about it. In another country across the Pacific Ocean, a man stood in front of a tank and the tank didn't run him over once. Good. That's the normal thing. That happens whenever humans are in the way of vehicles of any kind. You might hear about the cases where the vehicle failed to stop or didn't stop intentionally. Someone not being run over is not a very interesting story. But Amerikkka is a land of photographs and films and other fakery, and a powerful photograph can resonate with the Amerikkkan ideology, so the tank man became a real meaningful statement to us.
