The only part where Idiocracy was wrong is the heritability of IQ.
I've heard there are numerous genes which affect intelligence to some degree or another, has this been debunked?

That's a lot of eugenics bullshit truthfully. We've not found a genetic component for conservatism and anyone on the left or authoritarians to libertarian idealists. We have found some potential brain markers that one side has more than the other but this could be more likely of environment. If you're brought up to be afraid all the time you'll have a greater sense of fear overall situation which affects development. There have been studies that show lower empathy scores and higher activity in fear response sectors of the brain show a greater trend toward conservatism. Again though, these are not 100% either. It's a trend at best, not a scientific fact.
That word alone should make you ask a lot of questions about the science behind it
