Not electing their leaders. You see, representative government refers to having elections to choose your leaders. Something the West has had, and the East has not. China, the largest country in the world and part of "the east" has their president elected by a series of local representatives who are directly elected in local elections. Chinese democracy is and has been far more robust than anything in what you consider "the west" (which conveniently discounts the existence of Cuba lmao)
