I don't really get why it's eating up the public attention. If you've ever had a pool or tank, you know algae is a pain to deal with, and it's a nothingburger compared to everything else happening - yet the memes flow.
It's like the modern 'tan suit moment'.
It’s because Trump made a big deal about how bad the pool was maintained under Obama:
Yes, he's very good at directing attention. The media is happy to follow along because it's great engagement bait. Can we try talking about the important things more than petty bullshit, or are we just going to let ourselves be misdirected forever?
it's not eating up attention, it's being focused on to avoid topics people actually care about. unless people march in the streets, nothing is happening.
It wasn’t a big deal until Trump threw a corrupt tantrum.
I think it's good that people are focusing on the corruption of it, not the algae part of it.
A number of reasons.
Trump screaming about it on social media is the big one.
National news just being "Hey, what's on Twitter? Let's talk about that. (Unless it's the Gaza Genocide written from the perspective of its victims)" on a loop every day.
Surprisingly high profile people getting arrested for just curiously poking at the bad work.
It's a really easy way to see the corruption and incompetence in a way that a lot of people can relate to.
A lot of people know how to tend a pool, and those people know that individuals dumping in gallon jugs of hydrogen peroxide ain't gonna do it.
And it's not like Iran, or really Epstein has been out of any news that I've been paying attention to.
I guess the Democratic Socialists of America are stealing some attention. Hope that's okay with you.
