General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don't post to both !uk_politics@feddit.uk and !unitedkingdom@feddit.uk .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

Labour Party delegates will decide on Monday whether to adopt an emergency motion declaring that 'Israel' is committing genocide in Gaza and calling for a full arms embargo. The vote will take place during the party’s annual conference in Liverpool.

Middle East Minister Hamish Falconer opposed the motion on Sunday, warning that it could undermine aspects of the Middle East peace process. The motion, titled “Peace in the Middle East 2”, will be considered alongside another proposal broadly supporting existing Labour policy on 'Israel'.

If passed, the motion would signal Labour’s official acceptance of a UN Commission of Inquiry report that found 'Israel' guilty of committing genocide in Gaza. It would also back comprehensive sanctions on 'Israel' and a full arms embargo. Delegates from constituencies and affiliated organisations will vote on multiple motions over the next few days.

Starmer and his team unfortunately have a history of completely ignoring anything that comes out of conference.

The annual conference has voted for voting reforms a number of times now for example but the leadership just ignores them.

anglo Labour parties are everything they pretend communist orgs are

iirc state branches of the AusLP passed pro Palestine motions the last couple of years that werent adopted, they also kicked people out of the party who didn't toe their pro zionist line

Fatima Payman was an ex united workers union organiser, the union threatened organisers who supported her after she was removed from the ALP, and I just found out today a member of their national executive is israeli and even lived and worked in israel fairly recently

these same people are on the board of my superannuation fund who o finally got to admit do invest in israel, because it wouldn't be a good financial decision not to

it's going to be such a pain on my arse shutting that account down and getting the money to another, less shit fund (super funds are mandatory here, I'm investigating self management, but it looks like a lot more work, what i can find online suggests people only do this to invest in real estate, haha yes)

fuck you host plus

This has been suggested to me recently but i havent checked it properly https://www.australianethical.com.au/
