Yes. It's intentional
Yup. Few people are going to fall for "Hitler never did anything wrong and the Nazis were good actually" but it is a lot more easy to convince people that the designated enemies of the white empire, who we have been groomed to hate and fear from an early age, were worse than the Nazis.
