I really do not understand the oathate that comes from anglos in general. It's like when a bunch of americans on twitter decided to dunk on salt.

Oatmeal is a great base for breakfast. Equal parts oats and milk (milk used to include plant milk, it's only in more modern times we've split it up into separate groups, which is something the dairy industry spearheaded), pinch of salt, over heat, stir until the texture suits you. Put it inna bowl. Honey on top, fruits and nuts, go crazy, be full all day.

brits used to deride oats as horse feed because they hated the scottish or something, maybe we inherited that

or maybe it's the hurrng manly farmer eggs n bacon shit idk

I thought it was a classism thing because oats and/or whatever grains available were used to make prole-slop gruel to feed to the child labour slaves in the poorhouses during the industrial revolution. Maybe they got knackered together because of Charles Dickens making gruel synonymous with worker exploitation.

There's probably a racism element too, because we're talking about the British.

There's also another trend I see yanks do where they go so all-in on "teehee white people no seasoning" they run away from anything they deem to be "white" - hence the dunking on salt that was a trend a year or so ago. Some sort of weird reverse white saviour I see people do, like they try to say "i'm one of the good ones or something". I think it's a mix of all three: Racism, colonialism and I don't know what to call the last thing... Neoliberalism? Tokenism?

sometimes i hear about the dumbest shit and realize i'm not as online as i think i am

I think it's lazy. It's a way to signal anti-whiteness without actually doing anything. Being in community is hard, organizing is hard, reading books is hard, working through theory is hard, but making fun of white culture is really easy.

You know what's easy AND helps build community? Making big bowl of porridge for all to enjoy

Honey on top, fruits and nuts, go crazy, be full all day.

I think that's the problem. People expect it to be like a sugary cereal or something right out of the box, and not something you need to add stuff to in order to make it taste good.

People don't like oats??

People in general have this very low opinion of sloppy food. I should look into that, actually.

Take a good look everyone. Most correct post you'll read all day.

stalin-heart

You can even get coarse and fine grain oats, depending on how creamy you like your oatmeal. You can yankify it by slapping some GMO peanutbutter on it or even jam, I won't judge. Douse it with sugar or caramelized bacon bits or some other epic reddit shit. But hating oats? Telling on yourself. No joy in life.

I love oatmeal. Toppings change with the seasons. In the summer I pick wild strawberries. Late autumn and winter it's appleseason babyyy. I shoplift almonds all year, so they're a staple for me. I change up the milk I use too. If I'm in a hurry I mix the oats and milk the night before so it takes no time to heat em up and get em creamy.
Not liking oats is akin to saying you don't know how to put toppings on. It's saying you're a fancy lad who gets your food made for you because you have no idea what you really like so you have no way of making yourself a delicious low budget breakfast. Hell yeah. Sometimes I'll add sultanas when I'm cooking my oats so they rehydrate.

I wish the weather were a bit cooler here so I could eat a bowl of porridge. Such a good way to start the day.

I love putting raisins in with the oats. Same goes for almonds. I've also had some good experiences with putting pomegranate in right before it's done
