Any Libya experts in here? I saw this comment on reddit between someone saying Obama wasn't perfect because he helped bomb Libya, which is obviously not in a great state right now, and this person - but it doesn't seem like the whole story to me. But all the sources I can find online are Western ones just saying the no-fly zone was instituted because he bombed his own civilians and helped terrorists or something.
if you’re going to lie, at least make it believable. Libya had a civil war during the Arab spring in 2011. while other countries modernized, gaddafi responded by bombing and levelling his own capital city. Obama and the EU helped by no fly zone over Tripoli to stop gaddafis war planes bombing his own people.
this was only 12 years ago, blaming Obama for the Arab spring which took place in 19 Arab countries is downright idiotic.
This doesn't make sense to me. Why would he do that? Also, what's the causes for the civil war? What are the sides? This person doesn't explain that and it makes me think there's something key missing.
What's missing is that NATO did a hell of a lot more then just impose a no-fly zone, they conducted 7000 bombing sorties and destroyed the Libyan military enough to allow basically anyone to walk in and take over.
They literally destroyed a massive water pipeline that kept small communities deep in the Sahara alive which I'm pretty sure is some kind of war crime. Fuck NATO to hell.
But it was because of human rights violations he was doing against his own citizens?
Even if Gaddafi was the mad tyrant he was made out to be by Western media (which he wasn't) that doesn't justify bombing a country into ruin, destroying all its infrastructure, killing its people in droves, and resetting the whole country back to the era of open-air slave markets.
They destroyed Libya because Gaddafi wanted a pan-african union to resist western colonialism.
