"Tankie Bingo" (sh.itjust.works)
submitted 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) by LemmySlopSkimmer@hexbear.net to c/slop@hexbear.net

Had some fun with this. Rules:

  1. When a tankie post comes up, post a legitimate, fair argument. Do not argue in bad faith. No matter how nasty the post may be. Legitimately combat the disinformation there by going into their bubble and posting a sane response.
  2. Watch the responses come in. Especially if the post is on the tankie triad.
  3. Don't feed the trolls. Don't respond to anything, unless there is actually a legitimate attempt to have a legitimate discussion. Otherwise, start a game of tankie bingo to help prevent yourself from responding to the madness.

Suggestions for expansion welcome.

Also, @unknownuserunknownlocation@kbin.earth, it's not nice to put that little rules section in your post where the first one is to always engage in good faith with tankies when yesterday you were in the thread comparing the Tank Man in China to Renee Nicole Good's murder and claimed they were both executed, then proceeded to blatantly ignore all requests for evidence for that claim and dismissed them all. That's good faith? You even admitted that the one article you did click on you only read for a little bit.

Really cheeky to put Tiananmen Square Massacre denial in a square too, for someone who claims it happened yet has no sources.

They're both not banned from here and they've made comments here in the past 24 hours. Plainly speaking they're a coward and a fascist if they don't show up to defend their lies

Isn't that the one that's obsessed about communist control of lemmy?

[–] FunkyStuff@hexbear.net 22 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Yes but they're too late to stop us now.

I'd love for them to explain how Taiwan is a country and how Taiwan understands the situation.

This is a matter of hard facts. It should be a cinch to prove that it's a country, right?

I don't get why these people can't change their views once presented with evidence that contradicts their worldview. I used to think Tank Man turned into a pancake, then I saw the full video and read lots of articles from several perspectives, read on-the-ground reports, etc. I'm not denying it was a tragic event but I'm also not going to sit here and say "CCP bad!" for a few reasons:

  • People are rarely purely "good" or "bad"
  • Sames goes for nations
  • The situation was more complicated than American History lessons would lead you to believe
  • Governments can make mistakes and still be worthy of support

I know, insert False Witnesses here. I just wish people would learn that we're not gung-ho about this stuff. The big difference between me and you Mr. Lib is I apply more critical thinking and am willing to conclude "it's not that simple".

Is this an autism thing to dig deeper into history? Are most people happy living with surface-level knowledge of countries they don't live in? Which OK fine... I don't know much about the NFL but you don't see me vehemently defending the Eagles' conversion rate because I wouldn't know what I'm talking about!

[–] FunkyStuff@hexbear.net 19 points 3 weeks ago

I don't think it's an autism thing but I'm a fellow autist that finds this pattern of behavior extremely frustrating.

You'd think they would recognise that this counts as "nuance" but "nuance" is when you say "Enemies of the US bad and irredeemable cartoon villains, but US isn't perfect either, so I'm not biased."

South African white genocide denial

Isn't their entire point of the bingo bad faith?

[–] FunkyStuff@hexbear.net 14 points 3 weeks ago

I don't know, they said the point of their post couldn't be more obvious and I'm having a bit of trouble understanding it myself (after all, I suffer from the tankie physiognomy) so I'm waiting for clarification.
