Kotkin is such a piece of shit. Fun fact I had an old boss who was a big history guy and just by showing him History and Critique of a Black Legend I completely upended his view on Stalin lmao.
The wild thing though is that in many respects even Kotkin's view is more charitable than the pop-culture/reddit view. The same applies to Getty and other pretty mainstream historians. Did you listen to the clip?
Edit: Congrats on doing that with your boss, btw. That seems like it would normally be quite an uphill battle.
Oh yeah I did and you are right and that is probably why the Losurdo book hit so hard for him (he had already read Kotkin). He was a cool guy, I also got him hooked on Citations Needed.
