PSA: Avoid Texas, it's never safe. It's like Florida.
It really depends on the part. Austin and San Antonio are very art-focused, moderate/liberal cities in some of the most beautiful areas of the country, but everywhere in America has rural populations of utterly deranged hog-people.
A place like Dallas you aren't as likely to get shot, but you are more likely to face weird, old-money racism and discrimination.
The problem with texas is it has some of the most vast areas of rural population, as the entire state is just this flat sprawl of land with isolated communities full of poor drug addicts who just stare at the flatness of it all before going insane.
San Antonio is a shit-hole full of rich white people who fucking LOVE jebus
Edit: Oh and the "river" is a fucking concrete drainage ditch. Literally pathetic.
Relatable... I had an apartment in Studio City right on the LA River. It wasn't even the cool part of the river you see in movies. I used to jokingly call it my waterfront property.
As someone who LIVES in San Antonio, bullshit. San Antonio is an awesome city.
It also houses one of the chapters for the Democratic Socialists of America and is exceptionally purple in political spectrum.
There's also Houston, the largest city in the state. Houston is alright, mostly.
Houston's all right except for the sprawl and the terrible climate, that is. Well, that and a homicide rate 75% higher than that in Los Angeles.
I know two very excellent people from Texas. They both had the sense to move abroad. I keep ripping on them because "You forgot about the Alamo, didn't you?!"
The alamo was a US led insurrection in Mexican territory because the rich US landowners there wanted slavery to continue, and for manifest destiony (aka zionist-style land theft). Its yet another stain on US history that we could only hope would ever be forgotten.
As a Liberal Texan, there are a lot of great, progressive places in Texas. Generalizing a whole fucking state is pretty shitty. You realize how many millions of people live here?
Yes, our governor sucks ass. The state is jerrymandered into Republican control. However, as someone who has travelled and lived in over two dozen states in the US, I can tell you I've seen some of the biggest Trumpers in rural "blue states" like California.
Don't blanket assume everyone is a gun toting, Trump voting Republican just because a state OVERALL votes a certain way.
Objectively speaking, you have to admit that if you are from any other states and visit Texas you would more likely be harassed by law enforcement or be a target for being an outsider. Does that mean that the citizens are all a reflection of that? Not really, but it would be very hard to convince a tourist (international or otherwise) to visit a state that has a backwards viewpoint that bleeds into their justice system.
Case in point, this women gets smoked and no charges are being pressed.
Fuck this opinion. Every last member of my family is in Texas. From Austin to Ft. Worth. All the women are liberal and all the men are gun toting MAGAs. Maybe one brother is just a conspiracy-minded libertarian, but the rest are MAGAs. I still love them and visit them, but I don't want them having any legal jurisdiction over me or my kids.
People can be great, towns and cities can be nice, but corruption from leadership can ruin it for everyone. True for a state, the same for a country.
Agreed, but much like all Americans aren't assholes because of the Federal government being Trump's cronies, generalizing the entire state of Texas as "a shithole" is what I find offensive.
It doesn't even matter what people on the Internet think of you. Wake up from your defensiveness. America is already at the point now where we are going to have to throw the baby out with the bathwater. Texas has long been a lost cause.
then direct your ire at all the Americans ruining your reputation.
Well tough shit
Texas has a lot more guns than Florida, but yes both are awful
it’s a shame cause the food is sinfully out in the lone star state
Unless you're one of the billionaires fleeing the billionaire tax in California, in which case yes go to Texas, it's way safer then the crime ridden California cities. You don't even need to bring your body guards.
In fact, just broadcast to the world where you're going everyday. Walk amongst the citizenry, it's safe!
