A British woman who was shot dead by her father while visiting his home in Texas had argued with him about US President Donald Trump earlier that day, an inquest has heard.

Lucy Harrison, from Warrington in Cheshire, was shot in the chest on 10 January 2025 in Prosper, near Dallas.

Police in the town investigated the 23-year-old's death as possible manslaughter but no criminal case was brought against Kris Harrison after a grand jury in Collin County declined to indict him.

An inquest into Lucy Harrison's death opened earlier at Cheshire Coroner's Court, where her boyfriend Sam Littler described the "big argument" about Trump, who was preparing to be inaugurated for his second term of office.

WHAT THE FUCK! THE GRANDJURY REFUSE TO INDICT? This total bullshit hang that motherfucking dad from a fucking tree.

[–] NewSocialWhoDis@lemmy.zip 7 points 1 hour ago

After they have witnesses of him telling her he didn't care if she got raped!

Texas, I swear to God. I am from there, all of my family is there. My daughters adore their cousins and beg to move there. Absolutely not.

My MAGA Dad raised his hand like he was going to hit me at Christmas during a political discussion. I was shocked. He is old and feeble, so I told him I would hit him back.

Texas. Not even once.

[–] HugeNerd@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 hour ago

And risk breaking a branch? There's a perfectly good gun right there!

[–] nollataulu@lemmy.world 21 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)
  • Accidentally took the daughter in the downstairs bedroom.
  • Accidentally produced a gun.
  • Accidentally loaded it.
  • Accidentally pointed it at the daughter.
  • ~~Accidentally flicked the safety off.~~ Apparently it was a Glock
  • Accidentally pulled the trigger.

...

Color me suspicious but even if all that was just a series of unlucky coincidences, that man should be kept away from all guns for the rest of his life. At the very minimum.

[–] Gammelfisch@lemmy.world 5 points 1 hour ago

Texas Roid Rage and the idiots believe life is cheap and guns will solve all their problems.

So they’re doing honor killings now?

PSA: Avoid Texas, it's never safe. It's like Florida.

[–] chronicledmonocle@lemmy.world 3 points 1 hour ago (2 children)

As a Liberal Texan, there are a lot of great, progressive places in Texas. Generalizing a whole fucking state is pretty shitty. You realize how many millions of people live here?

Yes, our governor sucks ass. The state is jerrymandered into Republican control. However, as someone who has travelled and lived in over two dozen states in the US, I can tell you I've seen some of the biggest Trumpers in rural "blue states" like California.

Don't blanket assume everyone is a gun toting, Trump voting Republican just because a state OVERALL votes a certain way.

[–] NewSocialWhoDis@lemmy.zip 8 points 1 hour ago

Fuck this opinion. Every last member of my family is in Texas. From Austin to Ft. Worth. All the women are liberal and all the men are gun toting MAGAs. Maybe one brother is just a conspiracy-minded libertarian, but the rest are MAGAs. I still love them and visit them, but I don't want them having any legal jurisdiction over me or my kids.

[–] heyWhatsay@slrpnk.net 7 points 1 hour ago

People can be great, towns and cities can be nice, but corruption from leadership can ruin it for everyone. True for a state, the same for a country.

[–] ameancow@lemmy.world 10 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago) (2 children)

It really depends on the part. Austin and San Antonio are very art-focused, moderate/liberal cities in some of the most beautiful areas of the country, but everywhere in America has rural populations of utterly deranged hog-people.

A place like Dallas you aren't as likely to get shot, but you are more likely to face weird, old-money racism and discrimination.

The problem with texas is it has some of the most vast areas of rural population, as the entire state is just this flat sprawl of land with isolated communities full of poor drug addicts who just stare at the flatness of it all before going insane.

[–] PointyFluff@lemmy.ml 3 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago) (1 children)

San Antonio is a shit-hole full of rich white people who fucking LOVE jebus

Edit: Oh and the "river" is a fucking concrete drainage ditch. Literally pathetic.

[–] chronicledmonocle@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

As someone who LIVES in San Antonio, bullshit. San Antonio is an awesome city.

It also houses one of the chapters for the Democratic Socialists of America and is exceptionally purple in political spectrum.

I know two very excellent people from Texas. They both had the sense to move abroad. I keep ripping on them because "You forgot about the Alamo, didn't you?!"

[–] kreskin@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago

The alamo was a US led insurrection in Mexican territory because the rich US landowners there wanted slavery to continue, and for manifest destiony (aka zionist-style land theft). Its yet another stain on US history that we could only hope would ever be forgotten.

Have you ever noticed how the right always says the "left went too far" and somehow manages to push their argument by pointing to a single tweet or headline? Why doesnt that work against them too?

[–] 4am@lemmy.zip 24 points 4 hours ago

They don’t give a shit about words or truth, they just yell and invent when they don’t get their way until everyone does what they want because they are the smart ones who know better, which is why they need to kill everyone who doesn’t agree with them and say it’s because that’s what we want

[–] pivot_root@lemmy.world 9 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago)

Because they don't care about evidence or facts unless it fits into their narrative.

You can point to posts advocating for violence or censorship coming from their ilk and they'll just attribute it back to the other side because "we wouldn't need to if they didn't do it to us first." It's just the abuser justification, "look at what you made me do".

Or they will just outright deny reality, dismissing opposing evidence as conspiracies, exaggerated, or misunderstood. Did Elon really do a Nazi salute? "No, no. He was just sending his heart out to Americans!"

And when there's overwhelming evidence that they can't do mental gymnastics around? They shut down the conversation. They stop talking about it. They ignore it. They bury it. Out of sight, out of mind.

When someone is indoctrinated into that way of thinking and makes their politics a part of their personality, you are not going to beat them at their own game. Their sense of identity is tied to their beliefs and their ego will not let them accept anything that goes against those beliefs. They need to be deprogrammed.

Man shoots daughter dead and everyone's just okay with it because she didn't like Trump?! The fuck is going on down there? How have you existed as a country this long?!

[–] lechekaflan@lemmy.world 30 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Man shoots daughter dead and everyone’s just okay with it because she didn’t like Trump?!

It's like South Asian "honor" murders where women are killed for even the most trivial matters.

[–] GalacticGrapefruit@lemmy.world 15 points 3 hours ago

Literally, these are honor killings. Full stop. Take a look at the gender makeup of these anti-ICE protests and then take a look at the ICE goons.

It's patriarchy, and people fighting patriarchy. It's always been about white guys feeling terrified of their power eroding, and since white patriarchy has no coherent acceptable response other than rage, their first resort is everyone else's last resort.

The article gets way worse, "Littler said on the morning of 10 January his partner had asked her father during the Trump row:

"How would you feel if I was the girl in that situation and I'd been sexually assaulted?"

Kris Harrison had replied that he had two other daughters who lived with him so it would not upset him that much. "

Holy fucking shit.

This is how I know he murdered his own daughter.

[–] user224 16 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago) (1 children)

I've been thinking about that for a few minutes now. Does it mean he considers them property which loose value by being raped?

That reply just doesn't make sense to me.

[–] faythofdragons@slrpnk.net 17 points 5 hours ago

I chose to be homeless at 19 because I was terrified my stepdad would find out I'd been raped and kill me for not being a virgin any more.

possible manslaughter

beyond doomed country

[–] Carmakazi@piefed.social 104 points 8 hours ago (6 children)

Couldn't even get a grand jury indictment. No doubt the local yokels closed ranks. Made up some nonsense about it being an accident.

[–] Serinus@lemmy.world 4 points 4 hours ago

More likely the prosecutor just didn't show any evidence. The prosecutor has so much influence over whether there is or isn't an indictment.

Harrison said he could not recall whether his finger was on the trigger.

I do not like Glocks. Quite simply, I prefer pistols with a manual safety which Glocks do not have. That said, a Glock WILL NOT FIRE unless your finger is on the trigger. A Glock's safety mechanism is on the trigger itself.

If you are going to own a firearm, GO TO TRAINING. Trigger discipline should be muscle memory so that even piss drunk you keep your finger off the goddamn trigger until youbare ready to pull. If the guy was trained in firearm use, then he 100% murdered his daughter on purpose.

MAGA is a cult and its members are mentally ill.

Dude admitted he was an alcoholic who had already had a bottle of wine before the shooting, and they couldn't get a manslaughter charge to at least go to trial? Being drunk and accidentally killing someone is manslaughter.

This country is so fucked up.
