I think I remember an article talking about how the devs aren't allowed to actually give modders the proper tools, because Wizards of the Coast doesn't give a shit about their customers, but would rather burn the entire industry down if it meant turning a slight profit.

If I remember correctly they can't officially give access to things like custom campaigns. The game itself has official mod support.

However there is a checkbox that's like "Do whatever you want" and modding that checkbox is trivial, but they can't offer that as an official mod.

That definitely tracks with what I know of WotC. Sucks, cause I'd be mroe than happy to pay both modders, especially if it was quality content, and if WotC wants a reasonable cut, then that's just part of it I suppose. But nah...they suck lol

A happy medium would be a custom campaign marketplace.

That way modders could make an Act1 for free and buy full campaigns with WoTC getting a cut (and supporting campaign tools)

This would also lower the barrier for DMs that are modders to create content

Yeah I'd be cool with this. As I get older, and I realize just how much time modders put into these things. And in a field so hard to break into, I'm all about them having a way to get some financial support for their time, effort, and skills. I also realize that the platform costs money, and some portion would go to the parent company. But it would have to be something reasonable, otherwise it's just exploitative. Which is the kinda company WotC is, so...lol

Can't have bg3 competing with our now scrapped VTT. That's just good business, bruh. Light money on fire in one hand, piss on customers with the other. It's the Hasbro way!
