As per the title, western press is starting to doom post about mass shortages of food and fuel in the coming months if the Epstein Coalition doesn't back down against Iran.

What if anything should we start stockpiling in anticipation of future shortages?

The idea of disaster prepping before the disaster so right away if you're not. You don't need to go overboard. Having backup money to flee the country is better than a cabin in the woods with a 5 year supply of mylar trash can or whatever. But you can hedge against inflation with a reasonably large and well-stored dried food stock and some kind of energy strategy so you can boil water (for cooking etc). Dried beans and rice are good. You can live off them exclusively if you also have oil, salt, and some vitamins.

Food spoils by default, even dry goods, in about a year if not stored properly. A cool, dry place not exposed to light makes it last longer. To have true durability you need to remove oxygen. This is actually very easy, they make packets for this.. So it really depends on what makes sense for you regarding storage, because you'll 100% need to be constantly eating whatever you're storing to prevent it from going bad and restocking as well. So only store as much as you can eat in a year, for example, unless you're going ham on storage. Can you eat 15 kilos of dried beans in a year? I mean, beans are awesome and maybe you should, but if you don't, maybe start with 5 kilos.

Those oxygen absorbers are just iron filings and salt. Easy to make on your own.
