The regular hotels are off limits for USians. The super expensive private hotels, which were also exempt from the oil embargo, are the ones that are legal.
Impressive, you googled a listicle. In which is it never stated that any of these hotels are kept powered 24/7 with wifi available, now that the embargo is in place. Or that any of them are the five star resorts Hasan said he was forced to stay at. I wonder why he isn't naming the hotel?

I don't disagree with that. He's probably both trying not to incriminate himself and he wanted constant wifi and electricity while there. Thing is without more information it's impossible to know for sure.
