I mean okay whatever, but your self defense just brought THE GREAT PALESTINIAN GENOCIDE upon you, and the world at large won't do much until 25 years later.

In other words, there's some realpolitik ideas that might have been appropriate to consider

you think this started today? The Palestinian genocide has been upon us for decades. Really easy for you to sit here and talk about tactics when 1) you don't know shit about their situation, and 2) you aren't currently confined to an open air prison where a genocide against your people is being carried out block by block.

So you don't think reprisals tomorrow and beyond will be worse than the status quo?

[–] GaveUp@hexbear.net 64 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

Of course it will but do you expect the colonized to just not fight back or that Israel wouldn't have slowly genocided them all eventually regardless?

Remind me again how many Native Americans and First Nations people still exist in America and Canada right now?

[–] Weebus@hexbear.net 5 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Are you implying the Indigenous peoples of Amerikkka did not violently resist their genocide, and that if they had history would have gone differently?

All I am saying is those who want to celebrate this may do so but all they are celebrating is the excuse Israel will use for continuing and worsening massacre. My only concern is for the human cost of war, the vast majority of which will once more be weathered by the Palestinian people.

[–] GaveUp@hexbear.net 43 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

No I'm not saying that the indigenous people did not fight back

I'm saying they would eventually all be slaughtered regardless of whether they did fight back or not, so why not choose the option that doesn't give them a 0 percent chance of survival?

Also yea people are celebrating this but this comment chain has no celebration though

Feel free to voice those concerns on other chains actually celebrating

I just think dogging on someone for saying "think of the actual consequences/Realpolitik of this" is going too far. Especially if you recognize and agree with their point as it seems you do, that the reprisal is likely to be horrific. It strikes me as getting mad at someone for "bringing down the mood" and in my opinion this is already not a "high mood" situation.

All the best comrade, I mean nothing in disrespect palestine-heart

[–] GaveUp@hexbear.net 25 points 2 years ago

Same here, no disrespect cat-trans

It's just the criticizing their realpolitik is so clearly devoid of real knowledge or analysis and just based on liberal anti-radical vibes knowing the long history of Palestine Israel relations and how major Arab powers in recent times, most notably Saudi Arabia, are normalizing with Israel

They most likely decided this is the strongest they will ever be and decided to not let it go to waste

The commenter should've just not said anything or read a bit more before voicing such a strong opinion

do you think the people primarily concerned with the settler retaliation were anticipating a geopolitical change that this is subverting or are they just pissy about the status quo being disrupted?

buying time isn't worth anything on it's own you gotta have something coming that benefits from delaying the enemy.

[–] LordBullingdon@hexbear.net 47 points 2 years ago

😏 dumb Palestinians not even considering realpolitik

What’s more likely: that Hamas just kind of forgot that Israel would retaliate, or that you just don’t understand their aims and the conditions they emerged from

[–] JohnBrownNote@hexbear.net 32 points 2 years ago (1 children)

as opposed to the basically nothing the rest of the world has done for the previous 25 years?

[–] Kanda@reddthat.com 2 points 2 years ago

No, in line with that nothing.

[–] SoyViking@hexbear.net 31 points 2 years ago

If random people online is aware that Palestinian resistance is going to be met with brutal oppression by the apartheid occupation regime then we can safely assume that the Palestinians knows this even better. Yet they choose to fight anyways, despite the violence and evil they are facing if they fail. I'd anything, this tells us how the situation leading up to this was desperate and unlivable.

The apartheid regime brought this on themselves.
