mostly these gender rules got really bad under the victorians who were just weird people.

censor nursary rhymes for being too upsetting, won't say trousers as it's rude to acknowledge the existence of legs but will do a mountain of cocaine, whip children, and collect human hands. Raid egyptian tombs to eat the bodies and build massive mausoleums

Victorian England was a bizarre place and frankly I don't think we should listen to people who had child slave factories about parenting
