The Battle of Waterloo (18 June 1815) was the last major engagement of the Napoleonic Wars (1803-1815), fought by a French army under Emperor Napoleon I (r. 1804-1814; 1815) against two armies of the Seventh Coalition. Waterloo resulted in the end of both Napoleon's career and the First French Empire and is often considered one of history's most important battles.

On 1 March 1815, Napoleon returned from exile to regain control of his empire, beginning the period of the Hundred Days. The great powers of Europe responded immediately by branding him an outlaw and declaring war. The decisive Battle of Waterloo was fought between the towns of Mont-Saint-Jean and Waterloo in modern Belgium, then part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Napoleon's objective was to crush the Anglo-allied army of Arthur Wellesley, Duke of Wellington, before it could be reinforced by a nearby Prussian army under Field Marshal Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher. Napoleon nearly succeeded in his goal when his men captured the farmhouse of La Haye Sainte and stood poised to break through the allied center. However, the timely arrival of several Prussian corps and a failed charge by the French Imperial Guard dashed Napoleon's hopes of victory. Four days after his defeat at Waterloo, Napoleon abdicated for a second time and was exiled to the island of St. Helena in the South Atlantic, where he would die six years later.

The Battle of Waterloo has often been regarded as one of the most decisive battles in history; it brought an end to the Napoleonic period and ushered in a new political era known as the Concert of Europe. Additionally, Waterloo marked an end to nearly 23 years of constant warfare that had devastated continental Europe since the Battle of Valmy in September 1792. After Waterloo, Europe enjoyed decades of relative peace, as the great powers did not fight another major war until the Crimean War (1853-1856). Still, the importance of the Battle of Waterloo is sometimes overstated; historians have argued that the odds against Napoleon were impossibly high, and had he not been defeated at Waterloo, he likely would have met his end on some other battlefield shortly thereafter

Decided to try a "power nap" cause I've got some stuff with friends to do today, and I was woken up earlier than expected today, making me very tired. As soon as the caffeine was ingested and my head hits the pillow, it takes naught but 15 minutes until a loud as hell riding-mower starts doing donuts outside. So yeah, not much shut-eye to be gained, but the caffeine is helping me at least. (Though the crash will be catastrophic.)

my gf is very bothered by even the slightest of noises from a neighbor, just a soft thud next door is torture, and she wants to put a white noise machine in the living room (where I spend 90% of my time) and I'm the bad guy for saying "but then the noise would bother me too"

No idea how you people continue to have any hope whatsoever. I hate to sound all matrixy, but I’ve been off depression meds for about three months now and what I was told were symptoms of being “extremely depressed” were just very natural reactions to living in a hyper-capitalist country that puts life-altering medication behind an aburd paywall (absurd doesn’t even begin to cut it), despite the fact that it costs exactly the same to manufacture as any other drug that is mass produced. Seriously, does anyone know the meaning of the word “war” because it’s happening.

To make matters worse, I’ve been in the tech space for 5-6 years now, and it’s just dawning on me how everything is becoming more and more policed and censored. Seems like Edward Snowden had like 5 minutes (and then 5 more minutes on Joe Rogan) and then the NSA and big tech continued making deals under the table. I honestly don’t know how such an overtly communist website is still allowed to exist on the internet.

I’ve met so many irl leftists who tried for years and years and just eventually gave up. Capital seems to be one step ahead at every turn and I truly don’t believe anything can stop it

Wish China would just hurry the fuck up because we live in such a fucking surveillance state.

I really like entertaining people but Idk if I could bear the emotional drain of being an entertainer as a job, my autism kind of fucks around with that. I dont feel shit while putting on a smile and cracking dumb jokes for my audience but afterwards I do feel pretty damn tired. Long time of being trained to just shut off my entire personality and mask as a kid did fuck me up longterm I fear

Succ dems, more like succubus demons because they suck.

I would just like to say that I'm NOT racist against succubi, I have friends who are succubi and at least one of them didn't oppose me making that joke. I'm like 63% sure that I won't be cursed to death by Agrat bat Mahlat for posting this.

Played a lot of Pokerogue the past few days and my verdict is this: It succeeds as a Pokemon game but fails as a Roguelike. It so heavily relies on the starter system that at the beginning of each run, you pretty much already know what your "build" is gonna be. It heavily disincentivizes releasing your starters mid-run which kills the variety that Roguelikes are built upon. The more you progress, the more you get to basically just handpick your entire team, which is so antithetical to the genre I don't even know where to start.

Instead, its main draw is the "catch 'em all" aspect and the infinite joy of watching numbers go up, making it honestly more comparable to Cookie Clicker than to Hades or Slay the Spire. Sure, you get to pick from random rewards at the end of each battle which makes it look like a Roguelike, but those items do not define your run at all. Your run is defined by the Pokemon on your team, by their moves and their abilities. And you can pick those in the starter screen.

I think Pokerogue will suffer a lot in the long run because of this. As people complete their collections, the replay value will plummet because the variety is just not there.

Copa America is in the US this year and one of the venues is in Inglewood, close to where I live. I thought about checking out a match until I went on ticketmaster. Best value tickets were above $100, for nose bleed seats. Best tickets started at $341. This is for a Brazil team without a couple of star players, against Bolivia. Now if Evo was on the squad I might consider it, but these prices are not real for normal people. Are prices for Euro 24 similar?

so ive been out of the loop on smartphones for a while. anyone willing to recommend a couple for me to look at? my priorities are pretty much like this:

  • id prefer it to be powerful enough not to have any issues running any app or game i install on it for the foreseeable future, or a million tabs in a browser or whatever

  • decent battery life is pretty high priority

  • id prefer a decent amount of internal storage and also a microSD slot

  • if it didn't have a camera at all i probably wouldn't mind

other than that, im basically open to anything, across the budget spectrum. i guess realistically im looking for something around like $600 but i could go well above that if it's actually worth it and im not paying them to cover the damn thing in like 7 cameras

Has anyone, ever, in the history of JRPGs ever used the 'defend' command as anything other than a lark or a joke? Frickin useless.
