  • Trump is vowing not to be "nice" after his near-fatal shooting at his Pennsylvania rally.
  • He initially softened his tone, calling for unity in a speech at the Republican National Convention.
  • But he quickly resumed attacks on President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.

"I was going to milk this for sympathy until you started ignoring me."

I'm getting good at translating from narcissist. I wish I had learned French instead.

In fairness, it's been the immersion method for all of us for 8 long years.

Unfortunately, the trick for learning a language is exposure.

Unfortunately for me, my high school French teachers never taught me how to cry.

To the great surprise of no one.

Remember this is the man who, during the Covid pandemic, was handed a softball question from a reporter “What do you say to Americans who are scared… millions who are scared right now?” Basically set him up to provide a reassuring, caring response, to sound presidential for once in his life.

Except his response was: “I say that you’re a terrible reporter,” Trump snapped aggressively. “That’s what I say. I think that’s a very nasty question. You’re doing sensationalism.”

He’s a hateful, divisive, incompetent person who consistently reminds us how terrible humans being can be.

He was bad before, helped make the pandemic what it was (is), but this would have been a shining point in an otherwise terrible presidency. Like you said, it was an almost trope level question in crisis, one that any leader knows how to approach, and he went sideways. Anyone with any empathy towards others who supported him should have walked away then.

Literally two words like "stay strong" would have been infinitely better. And that was literally the very first thing that popped into my head. I'm sure I could come up with something a little more meaningful given a few seconds of thought.

I think the corporate news have done incalculable damage wrt trump but one of those things they've done is refused to present him for what he is - demented, a narcissist, and with strong sociopathic tendencies. That's not even addressing the adderall and/or coke. snif

The 'normalization' program is the default for a couple of reasons but they simply are unable to buck it AT ALL and he's so far off the scale of normal we get this disonnance between their reporting and what he is.

Personally I think the biggest issue beyond the obvious "this sure will get us a lot of views/clicks" is that some outlets try to maintain the perception of "balance"

"Well we CAN'T call them deranged maniacs hell-bent on destroying democracy, or people will say we're biased!"

"but sir, they ARE deranged maniacs hell-bent on destroying democracy"

"yes, but if we TELL people that, they'll decide we're biased"

[-] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago

Considering the NYT editor said that almost verbatim, I’d agree

Imagine what an asshole you have to be to be nearly assassinated and shrug off all sympathy toward it within a week. Cool dude. I don’t really care, do u?

I'm thinking that, as a narcissist, Trump simply can't imagine how close to death he was, it's not real or possible to his mind that he was literally within and inch of his life.

A normal person might reevalute or gain a new perspective on their mortality and how they've spent their limited time on this earth. But if your brain is hardwired to believe you're at the center of the universe, nothing can shake that belief.

[-] CosmicTurtle0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 3 months ago

There was a post a few hours after the shooting of how Trump, someone who posts about anything and everything, had nothing to say on Truth social. He was quiet for almost two or three days.

He was shook.

He couldn't believe that someone hated him enough to end his life. He's that much of a narcissist.

[-] dogsnest@lemmy.world 34 points 3 months ago

CouchFucker Vance is the end of Trump, though.
Huuuuge mistake with that pick.

Sauce for the goose

[-] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 6 points 3 months ago

No, not asshole. Demented malignant narcissist.

He's seriously suffering from degraded mental capacity, possibly exacerbated by stimulant abuse, and is a lifelong narcissist who has exhibited more than a few sociopathic tendencies. We also know he's an asshole.

RepubliQans, you're really going all out. I'm sure you're so proud.

[-] Biggles@lemmy.myserv.one 28 points 3 months ago

Oh, thank God. For a moment I was worried he might turn into a decent human being.

[-] Jode@midwest.social 20 points 3 months ago

This dude is going to be wearing some kind of bandage on his ear for the next few months isn't he.

[-] BrokenGlepnir@lemmy.world 15 points 3 months ago

I don't think it's just about sympathy. I think if it took off a small piece of his ear, he will never take it off because of his vanity. You'll probably never see that side of his face again if he can help it.

I cast tinnitus

[-] ShareMySims@sh.itjust.works 8 points 3 months ago

I just got an image in my head of him wearing an eye patch on his ear with the elastic running across his forehead, and had a good giggle, thanks lol

[-] Timii@biglemmowski.win 5 points 3 months ago

All the way until January 7th

[-] HaleHirsute@infosec.pub 1 points 3 months ago

Did he have a bandage on at the speech? I saw him point at his ear and it looked like he didn’t.

[-] skulblaka@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 months ago

He's got one on in the photo attached to this very article.

[-] xc2215x@lemmy.world 11 points 3 months ago

We knew he wouldn't be nice.

[-] meeeeetch@lemmy.world 10 points 3 months ago

Didn't change him one bit.

Until, y'know, somebody tosses a couple of these near his next rally.

[-] Rapidcreek@lemmy.world 10 points 3 months ago

Right, because "Asshole for President" has such a great ring to it.
