The headline doesn’t take things far enough. The GOP isn’t looking to win in court — they’re looking to raise the spectre of a Democratic win being so illegitimate that the courts would consider hearing a case on it. Then, when the cases inevitably fail, but with some judges outspokenly objecting, that will be the signal for yet another insurrection attempt, but one that’s much better coordinated than last time.

Thing is, this will be the THIRD attempt using this strategy; the first was in play when Trump, much to his surprise, actually won in 2016. It took a while for them to spin down the machinery they’d put in place to call the election rigged and question the results. And of course, during that time a small amount of foul play WAS discovered, all of it belonging to the GOP.

Ok, so, pay attention to the right-wing messaging, and deploy a battalion of National Guard armed with assault rifles to whatever the new presumed target is.

Deploying armed military within the US is a recipe for disaster. This is a police issue.

I’m not saying do t have the guard ready to deploy, I’m just saying don’t put them there to start with. They only have one action they know how to perform and it’s not peaceful.

No, deploying the police is a recipe for disaster.

The military not only actually teaches their personnel rules of engagement and de-escalation techniques, they also tend to hold their people more accountable thanks to the UCMJ.

And over the last few years the police repeatedly show they've only got two responses: do nothing if it threatens them or it's anything Republican; or, beat the shit out of peaceful protestors and kill/arrest minorities.

Police were at the Capitol on 1/6, and most of them stood back and stood by. A small minority of them did their job, like officer Sicknick, and he's dead now.

Mike Johnson is a fucking moron, and a crazypants nutjob.

Every time you hear some Republican piece of shit start arguing that it was "unfair", or "illegal" or whatever word they want to say about Biden stepping out, or that they'll sue and win in court somehow, just very calmly look them right in the eye and say: "BIDEN WASNT EVEN THE FUCKING NOMINEE YET YOU MORONIC JIZZLOBBER. THERE WERE NO BALLOTS TO PRINT BECAUSE THE NOMINATION HADNT HAPPENED YET. NO LAWS OR RULES WERE BROKEN BECAUSE NOTHING WAS OFFICIAL YET. DUHHHHHHH."

Really go wild with that last "duh".

[-] _stranger_@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

jizzlobber is a new one for me, and an excellent one.

[-] krashmo@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago

Anything past that first sentence is just noise to them. They won't even hear it, much less process it rationally. You might succeed in angering them with this tactic but they sure as hell won't change their views.

Let's be honest here, Lemmyfolk. None of us are running for office. I think it's fine.

That picture, though....
"Adult Harry Potter and the Comically Large Gavel"
...and it looks like he got a surprise insertion from behind, and he's liking it.

It’s where he’s hiding the real gavel. And apparently vibrates

[-] Fiivemacs@lemmy.ca 11 points 4 months ago

Ahh yes, don't get your way to bitch about it to a judge. Always how you want your party to act. Like a spoiled lil bitch.

Will there be couches in the court?

That’s the face Mike Johnson makes when destroying American democracy catches up with him
