Municipal and state Dems are the biggest example of “vote blue no matter who” leading to nothing good, especially at the municipal level. Town and city level democrats are probably among the most blatantly corrupt and people keep voting them in.

here in new england a lot of what are essentially republicans run as democrats for electability reasons. not that there's a huge difference between the two generally but we'll get some extra chuddy dems up here for that reason that won't even bother with a mask.

That's basically everywhere democrats hold power. A lot of conservatives still live in those areas, but the whole government apparatus is controlled by the democratic party. So conservatives will run as democrats to get in office and democrats have zero party discipline except when it comes to chasing out the left.

And he can just do this? It’s all legal to just stop housing and build whatever you like instead?

My sister bought a house in a reasonably quiet neighborhood surrounded by a wildlife preserve. That was THE selling point. Couple years later, real estate stooge got himself voted into the local government, removed the preservation's protections, and was voted out in the next election. Damage was already done. There's now massive shopping centers, housing developments, and construction all over the place. The schools are overcrowded and underfunded. And the wildlife have nowhere to go so there's more and more roadkill. This is in Florida, in a county that's estimated to be one of the 50 counties in the US to be most impacted by climate change.

There's no off switch to this. The entire electoral system is designed to prevent the hinderance of private property, heaven help you if you try and stand in the way of that.

Everyone pays so much attention to national politics but it's the rotary club shitheads in local government who will REALLY fuck you

The only way to KNOW something is going to be preserved is to own it and make it that way. Private property is king.
There's constant debate at my city's planning commission on whether to turn public parks into commercial and residential developments. Even if the commission weren't all developers, literally half of them are appointed by the mayor, so it's all rigged anyway.

Getting rid of the real public safety inprovement, to put in a bandaid on safety.

That said, 8 units of public housing per acre is unusually sparse.
