Someone else pointed out that we shouldn't celebrate Christmas or July 4th because "all days matter."

[–] joby@programming.dev 9 points 2 months ago

This is great. I think that September 11th fits even better.

Isn't that basically the Jehovah Witness POV? You should celebrate God all days, you should be patriotic all days, etc.

[–] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

They don’t celebrate Christmas because it’s a Pagan holiday not a Christian one

They only celebrate holidays mentioned in the bible

Well that rules out Easter as well. The rabbit and eggs are a dead giveaway that it's a fertility festival. Oh, and the lack of moralistic paywall on the candy. You have to be good for Santa. The rabbit is just throwing the eggs and chocolate everywhere.

All human lives are worthy

Don't mean to sound racist but we just have a very specific definition and idea of what "human" is.

/s /sarcasm /this is sarcasm

[–] LongLive@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago (1 children)

This is /sarcasm, correct?

[–] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 7 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I guess I should be explicit about every time I write or comment things like this ... I've made the edit

Im curious if you can make a definition of human to exclude all the often hated people without being too specific or having ridiculous side-effects

[–] Rusty@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 months ago

Featherless biped

[–] Shapillon@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

We can't even agree on what makes a human.

Some definitions use the homo clade, other are specific to the homo sapiens species. Otoh I'm pretty sure most people would consider Neanderthals humans. Homo Sahelanthropus I'm not so sure.

btw your OP then clarified that their comment was sarcasm.

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

They explore what a proper definition of humanity should be in the webcomic Freefall.

The main character is an AI and recognizes quite a few life forms as "human" or "people," that wouldn't be readily apparent to many in real life.

We are pro-life.

So you support feeding kids from low-income houses free lunches at school knowing they won't get proper nutrition without it?

[–] HKPiax@lemmy.world 13 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I agree with the sentiment, but using "black vs white" does more harm than good. I'd use "decent people" and "conservative assholes" but I'm open to suggestions.

Yea, one has to hate fascists, no matter what colours they come in

"So black lives do matter?"
"So mother's lives matter?"
"So immigrant lives matter?"
"So trans lives matter?"
"So children's lives matter?"
"So Palestinian lives matter?"
"So criminal lives matter?"
"So poor lives matter?"
Etc
Etc
Etc

We can stop birth right citizenship because we don't have jurisdiction over them

So we don't have jurisdiction to deport them?

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Non-bigot wipepo: of course. We just said that.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

"did we stutter? I've got a stew on"

[–] sinedpick@awful.systems 2 points 2 months ago

sounds like one of them "self-evident truths"
