What if he's a crypto-comrade and this entire time he's using "China" as code to substitute for the US and he's actually talking about the collapse of the US? This would track in terms of comments and timeline.
If the US collapses, he should spin excuse by the CPC and see if they let him do a speaking circuit grifting on discussing how the US had an inferior system that always showed signs of collapse but he couldn't speak out due to fascist repression.
