The more I play Bethesda games the more I realize they're not actually good. Fun sometimes, but also kind of bad.

oh my God that fits SO WELL

[–] FlihpFlorp@lemm.ee 4 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Usually my main mods are Legacy of the Dragon born, CACO, (if I’m playing a vampire) Sacrosanct, Ordinator, Mundus and Aetherius a standing stone and race overhaul respectively, frost fall and sunhelm (the air ship from legacy makes it fast travel with extra steps). Let’s see what else. Some community shader light mod that makes the white tables in dungeons contain the power of the sun

I’m at like 280 mods (I think 50 are from and Vanagrad, Goetia, and Leviathan pack) and my modlist still requires this Skyrim.exe thing to boot so clearly that’s not enough

As you can tell I don’t talk about Skyrim modding with my friend group

[–] linkinkampf19@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Once you get into Wabbajack modding, that number will quickly increase. I'm at... checks MO2 list 814 mods. And now I'm at the ESP cap of 254, so I've gotta be really selective with mods, as they need to be ESL, and unlike Vortex, There's no easy way to mark ESPs as light without using edit scripts.

But lucky you /s, I don't have a friend group to talk with this chaos to... Discord chats ever so often tho.

[–] FlihpFlorp@lemm.ee 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Yeah I’m pretty happy with my modlist RN tho

Lots of small tweaks and some big ones as well as adding new content like wyrms tooth

After playing Skyrim on and off for a couple years I think I’m finally done with major changes

[–] linkinkampf19@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Wonderful! Adding mod after mod is fun and all, but I do yearn for the day I can say the game is "complete". Modding has still become its own game to me, and my roomies actually have told me I like that more than playing the games I mod. They... aren't wrong :P

[–] FlihpFlorp@lemm.ee 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

So I hear rumors that’s there’s a game inside all our modlists

Do you think that’s actually true or just one of those scary stories

[–] linkinkampf19@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

It's most definitely true. The game consists of adding mods until it breaks the Gamebryo/Creation Engine, then Todd Howard climbs out of your monitor and forces you to play Starfield, day one edition. It consists only of load screens.

Hey, there! Random as hell, but Sacrosanct made me think of something. I see a majority of Nexus Mods Collections for Skyrim include Sacrosanct. I am wondering what you like about it, say, compared to Better Vampires? I use BV every playthrough, but was always interested in understanding why Sacrosanct is the preferred mod for so many people? :)

[–] FlihpFlorp@lemm.ee 2 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

I haven’t used better vampires but with sacrosanct your powers are stronger when you’ve fed and weakness are less. Vampire lord perk tree is huge and one branch being its hemomancy in mortal form

Even if your a regular vampire you can drain people to unlock new mortal form blood magic. Like blood seed as a damage over time, make corpses explode, a damage over time then explode, profaned sun which is an orb that follows the target. It’s basically a spell that goes “you know what I’m not a fan of everything in that general direction”. Usually my mage vampires only use hemomancy.

You also unlock passives and abilities by draining victims then sleeping, such as gaining a blood potion with each drain (go to markarth to stock up then use night walk (mist form) to jump down to the tavern and sleep), blood seed enhancing damage from other sources, a dash/teleport ability, and more

There’s probably a lot more I missed but the mod page does a better job explaining it

Another mod sacrilege, is what I used years before when I only used the in game mods (this is before AE) and only sacrilege was available

Edit: didnt finish my thought. Sacrilege is good for small changes to vampires

[–] LucidNightmare@lemm.ee 1 points 2 weeks ago

Ah! I think I understand better now, thank you! I think I’ve always used Better Vampires for the customization aspect, so maybe that’s why in Sacrosanct I didn’t really understand why my vampire was so different! :p

The beauty about an RPG is the RP part: you craft your own story and do whatever you like. With every Elder Scrolls iteration, that freedom became less and less.

You know, I replayed it recently (with OpenMW) and for 2002 yes, but by more modern standards not really, not for me. The leveling system is really bad. The combat system is an awful mix of dice rolls and action, where neither is satisfying. Movement is glacial and it takes a long time to either level speed or get mark/recall. NPC interaction is minimal.

It certainly has a lot of cool stuff in it. Spellcrafting is cool (if janky). Enchanting was like spellcrafting, but better. Alchemy can get bonkers. The world is huge, and because it was less level-scaling and procedural-generation you sometimes could find really interesting things. Like breaking into a room in the fighter's guild and finding a full set of glass armor. Super cool. Of course, the illusion of a believable world immediately shatters when you walk right out wearing the stolen armor and no one reacts.

So, yes and no. Amazing, for 2002. But also kind of limited, and sometimes kind of bad, and they haven't really reached new heights in the past 23+ years. All of their games handle stealth badly. They all handle damage badly. There's just not two decades of improvement by them.

[–] andros_rex@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Like breaking into a room in the fighter’s guild and finding a full set of glass armor.

P sure you’re thinking of a room at Ghostgate, not the fighters guild.

Morrowind stealth was actually broken. Pickpocketing even with max skill doesn’t work as intended.

[–] jjjalljs@ttrpg.network 2 points 2 weeks ago

https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Ald%27ruhn#Notes

It's the Ald'ruhn fighter's guild. Apparently it's not a full set, but it's a lot of it.

[–] greencactus@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I agree - have you used the modlists from OpenMW? They can improve the game by quite a bit (still not to modern standards, but at least not absolutely terrible)

[–] jjjalljs@ttrpg.network 1 points 2 weeks ago

I used a lot of mods, but I don't remember all of them right now

"Natural growth and decay" I think was the one I got for stats, because I didn't want to deal with the original's insane leveling system. It was pretty good, but had some bugs. Once you got money to pay for training, the wheels fell off because you could rocket up all your skills and stats.

Once you have the skills for Frenzy100 and a spear, you can get unlimited money by taking out the guards that carry ebony weapons. Ok, that kind of wackiness is a little charming.

I also got a mod so NPCs had more money, because hitting every merchant in town and advancing time so they refresh is really tedious.

Oh, and I got one so Magicka regenerates, because constantly sleeping or chugging potions is tedious.

And one so you can have up to 12 marks saved.

If you have any recs let me know

[–] greencactus@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

I think so too! One of my favorite games, especially with Tamriel Rebuilt, which I still have to play. But I also agree with the other commentator - it is kind of dated nowadays, to the point of being too old for me. Gothic had immersive day/night cycles, while in MW all just stand around and stare at walls. At some point this just becomes not good enough, with all the graphical clunkiness.

Skyrim slander will not be tolerated.

[–] TimewornTraveler@lemm.ee 2 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

They're fucking terrible. Money grubbing pig of a studio releases broken games for the users to fix for free, and they gobble it up because omg open world! With bland, generic combat, mundane repeatable quests, and the illusion of choice and creativity.

Honestly the Elder Scrolls world really just deserved better. Better teams, better design, better releases, a world actually fleshed out. But instead we get this garbage.

Yeah that’s how I learned about the level of realism of the game, in Riverwood. See chicken: “huh, wonder if they actually do anything, maybe like the chickens in LoZ:LTTP”

(hit chicken) (this kills the chicken) (o dam didn’t know they die rip lil guy i’m sorry :’( )

GREAT BOILING STARFUCK THE ENTIRE TOWN IS MY ENEMY WTF JUST HAPPENED

(run, obv)

[–] helpImTrappedOnline@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago

In fairness, if you saw a stranger enter your town and the first thing they do is murder a random chicken in cold blood, you'd be raising the alarm too.

[–] FlihpFlorp@lemm.ee 10 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I felt this

Before I had legacy of the dragon born I used open cities (couldn’t find a patch) and Vampires attacked solitude and im using reliquary of myth dawn breaker, which has a chance to violently explode undead

Well because I’m using open cities Sybil (or how ever you spell the vampires name in the solitude court) gets hit in the blast and I get a huge bounty and could not plead oopsie poopsie

[–] dragonfucker@lemmy.nz 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

That's kind of your fault. Don't use explodey weapons near civilians

[–] FlihpFlorp@lemm.ee 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It really is.

However normally the undead explosion from dawn breaker doesn’t do anything to anyone because they’re not undead

Well most of them…

[–] dragonfucker@lemmy.nz 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)
[–] FlihpFlorp@lemm.ee 3 points 2 weeks ago

Look dawn breaker has undead friends, Serana for example

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 9 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I only think it's lame because instead of being attacked by hundreds of chickens, like Legend of Zelda style, it's just hundreds of regular ol' people. 😔

[–] Dicska@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

Better not be geese, though

[–] Sanctus@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

I shot a man in Kvatch. There was no recourse for this action.

[–] edgemaster72@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

[–] Wilco@lemm.ee 3 points 2 weeks ago

The dragon born has chosen death.

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 weeks ago

Oh, it's a game meme. I thought this explained people voting for the stein operative.
