Trump launches blistering new trade attack against Brussels, as he agrees to cool tariff war with Beijing.

Donald Trump said Monday that the European Union is worse than China, hours after Washington and Beijing agreed to slash respective punitive tariffs and de-escalate their trade war.

"European Union is in many ways nastier than China, okay?" Trump said, as he lashed the bloc. "Oh, they'll come down a lot. You watch. We have all the cards. They treat us very unfairly."

Despite several attempts at negotiating with Washington to remove Trump’s tariffs on European goods, the EU has yet to achieve a breakthrough.

By “nasty” he means they aren’t offering him a jumbo jet as a bribe

Translation: the EU still retains some elements of democracy.

I would say autonomy instead of democracy. Many countries here have the same bi-partisan system with both sides being financed by competing (or not) mustache-twirling villains, and ultimately nobody knows nor has a hand in what happens in Brussels... The only reason we're not more cucked by the powers that be is because our populations are more reactive (?).

Dammit, I thought we'd always been at war with Eastasia.

I'm scared by how often I've seen that book referenced in the last few months

[–] JeeBaiChow@lemmy.world 30 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Hes gonna fold on the eu too...

[–] futatorius@lemm.ee 10 points 1 week ago

One of the reasons Putin put him into office was to sabotage the EU. The others were to destroy NATO and cripple the US economy.

The Chinese have already laid the outline on how to handle Trump's tariffs. Just match the rates and then wait for him to cave. Then he'll announce how they reached a great historic deal

He speaks like such a child.

[–] OutlierBlue@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

He needs to be understood by his supporters.

[–] filister@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Sometimes I wonder if he is really that stupid or is just pretending.

[–] runeko@programming.dev 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

He's really that stupid. Source: am US citizen and have had to follow his nonsensical ramblings far too closely over the last 6 years.

He has like two or three phrases max on his repertoire and he just vomits them all over the press at every occasion, huh? 😅 And this is the person a good chunk of Americans (perhaps not a majority, I know democracy in America is iffy to say the least) thought was at least competent enough to lead? Oh boy oh boy oh boy...

[–] futatorius@lemm.ee 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

And his limited vocabulary keeps shrinking even more. But don't call it dementia or the MAGAts get all sensitive.

The children will have to tolerate discomfort to mature as people, like we all have.

The US is the one that has all the cards but it's the EU that's unfair? How does that work?

[–] filister@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago

Typical bully.

[–] WanderingThoughts@europe.pub 16 points 1 week ago (1 children)

He's not completely wrong. EU can be nasty, but it takes time. It's pretty bureaucratic, so it moves a lot slower than China. And at the moment EU is moving towards killing the US's entire digital services in retaliation now that normal negotiations failed.

[–] pmk 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

What does this mean in practice?

[–] WanderingThoughts@europe.pub 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Strict rules on EU data and heavy fines for breaking those. Tariffs on taking EU data out of the EU. Changing tax rules on services and advertising. Basically make having a foreign digital service in the EU unprofitable.

[–] pmk 3 points 1 week ago

Thanks for explaining, that sound good. I hope we can also squeeze in Year of Linux on the Desktop as an added bonus.

[–] Siegfried@lemmy.world 16 points 1 week ago

I'm getting a little tired of USA

[–] SW42@lemmy.world 14 points 1 week ago

Stop, orange man, you’re making me blush :)

[–] Mothra@mander.xyz 13 points 1 week ago

Stop, Donald. Take a break. Go play golf

[–] MyOpinion@lemm.ee 10 points 1 week ago

Nothing is nastier than the Orange Turds’s diaper.

He’s such a child. If anyone doesn’t give him his way immediately, he starts calling them names.

I went to China on a business trip about 10 years ago. I was gobsmacked by how good they are at flattery. I was totally unprepared for it, and they didn't even want anything from me.

I thought it was Canada that was “nasty”. Go fuck yourself mate.

[–] Witchfire@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Canada has been nothing but warm and welcoming to my partner and I

Except for the weather. Last winter was rough lol (but I'm used to snow)

[–] perestroika@lemm.ee 8 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Considering that he hurt the US economy considerably in the process of getting tootled by China, I don't think he has credit to spare for repeating the same process with the EU.

[–] Tattorack@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

As the "kids these days" say:

Cope.

[–] RedditIsDeddit@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Donald Trump is a tool bag

Everyone despises him, China just hides it slightly better

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

This is like the pot some idiot left on the fire and burnt the stew into a solid block of char calling the kettle black.

Dude is a freaky nasty shitbird.

Remember Musk calling for a free-trade agreement not a long while ago?

[–] sfled@lemm.ee 1 points 1 week ago

I'm doing so well just believing the opposite of whatever he says.
