From what I'm reading, these changes were already present in the console ports released last year, and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 also doesn't have a Russian dub.

Devs hiring Azov guys to do voice work for the sequel and bragging about buying the abduction vans for conscripts really took away my positive feelings about the series

[–] BelieveRevolt@hexbear.net 34 points 1 week ago

Really? I knew about the Azov shit but not about the abduction vans internet-delenda-est

They also tried to crowbar NFTs into the game lmao

Absolute clowns

Because of the repeated UK and USA-led genocides, we're going to remove the English language from the game too, right? anakin-padme-2

Didn't all of the generic non-story-critical NPCs speak Russian even when playing in English? Did they patch out cheeki breeki not-built-for-this

[–] NewOldGuard@hexbear.net 22 points 1 week ago

The devs are Ukranian and the comments had a lot of anti-russian sentiments on steam from what I recall.

The soviet union created the modern Ukrainian state but they would like to pretend nothing happened 1920-1990

Rather than the 70 years as a SSR I bet they fixate on a weird period of 1941-1944 Ukraine

But the Hetmanate! But the Sich! But the evul British for handing over the Banderites to the soviets!!!

[–] Seasonal_Peace@hexbear.net 35 points 1 week ago

If its good enough, russians will mod the ukrainian fascism out of the game.

I read the Roadside Picnic book that inspired this series, it's pretty cool but I have no interest in trying out the games

[–] Nacarbac@hexbear.net 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The STALKER film is absolutely worth a watch, but it has even less in common with the games!

Yeah I watched andrey rublev the other day, couldn't make heads or tails of it, but it definitely got me interested in more Tarkovsky

Have you seen Tales from the Loop and short films by Evan Royalty? Both borrow from Roadside Picnic.

[–] grandepequeno@hexbear.net 4 points 1 week ago

No, but that looks interesting

OpenXRay remains the hope for the original trilogy, even if it's 3/4ths dead

The studio with developers that joined a literal nazi battalion is also filled with nazis? Shocker!
