I have only been gone from reddit for just over 6 months. Today I made the mistake of browsing it, there is so much misinformation, noise, and hate. After scrolling for about 10 minutes I realized that I hadn't seen anything of substance that I hadn't already seen on Lemmy

I really don't feel like I'm missing anything by leaving reddit

[–] Ghostalmedia@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago

It’s so bad now that the default client is king and now that a lot of the good super users bailed.

The content and the algo that sorts it is terrible.

[–] RedditAdminsSuckIt@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

The only thing I miss is my current cities sub.

The rest of it is the same thing every day

[–] moosetwin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 17 points 1 month ago

don't worry, we have plenty here on lemmy

even if you don't want it you'll still get it

[–] Itdidnttrickledown@lemmy.world 15 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Block and block often. It works here.

[–] sirico@feddit.uk 13 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Don't worry, I've got you

I’ll quietly downvote anything that mildly inconveniences my worldview, never actually contributing, of course. If you mention a personal experience, I’ll still argue like I know better — facts or not. And yes, I absolutely will dig through your post history to cherry-pick something irrelevant and weaponize it in bad faith. I hope this helps you transition over easier.

I won't listen to any jerk that has an AI profile banner like you! Support real art you twip.

Am I doing it right?

[–] sirico@feddit.uk 6 points 1 month ago

I'm telling the mods 😭

[–] FeelzGoodMan420@eviltoast.org 12 points 1 month ago (2 children)

There just as much rage bait here though.

[–] SalamenceFury@lemmy.world 18 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I can just block them at least. I'm just tired of being angry :(

[–] Gullible@sh.itjust.works 14 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Step 1 was cutting off all news, for me. Social media news included. Then I weaned myself back on once I got a handle on the cycle of rage. Now my anger is directed toward important events like when that fucking piece of garbage nearly hit me at the four way stop sign. The person in the middle of the intersection almost certainly has the right of way, you pustulent troupe of gremlins in a human suit.

[–] Badabinski@kbin.earth 5 points 1 month ago

pustulent troupe of gremlins in a human suit.

This is a rare and powerful insult and I'm stealing it.

No there absolutely is not 'just as much'.

Literally at a core fundamental there isn't in terms of what users see, since lemmy's algorithm isn't engagement driven.

Being dismissive doesn't sound cool when you're objectively wrong.

[–] SereneSadie@lemmy.myserv.one 9 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Jesus, I've been consciously aware of the fact that I've fallen into this exact trap, again. Honestly didn't really know if others were trapped in the same cycle.

For me, the issue is that there's no viable counterpart to many of the reddit communities I used to enjoy. There's more general lots, sure, but so few that actually touch base on the same familiar level.

Maybe it's time to walk away.

[–] ToxicWaste@lemmy.cafe 2 points 4 weeks ago

i think you are right: it is time to walk away.

when i switched to lemmy, many communities i was into at reddit, did not exist or have very little posts. over time i discovered other communities and am less online in general. it is a getting used to it, but overall a net positive.

lemmy has a lot of the same look and feel. but they are not the same.

[–] DannyMac@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I occasionally land on Reddit from trying to find an answer to something niche, but Lemmy has gotten much better and more active to the point that I'm seeing enough here to keep me from wanting to go back. I don't know official numbers, but it at least feels that way.

[–] misteloct@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 1 month ago

It's 1000x better than Reddit. I know you are a real person, I'll take your real human touch comment over "18F, I kicked my 45M boyfriend out of my home because he won't work or do night duty for our 2 toddlers. AITA?"

[–] Anomalocaris@lemm.ee 6 points 1 month ago (3 children)

here's ragebait:

whichever way you put the toilet paper is wrong

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 8 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago) (2 children)

Toilet paper is wrong and wasteful, you should be using a duvet.

[–] Anomalocaris@lemm.ee 5 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

you probably meant bidet, just to be safe, you aren't allowed in my house.

[–] RedditAdminsSuckIt@lemmy.world 2 points 4 weeks ago

Boycott toilet paper!

[–] some_guy 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

A coworker told me that I had "righteous indignation" about twenty years ago. It's still true.

[–] SalamenceFury@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It's a good thing to have, I have a very big sense of justice. But after 13 years I think I am done. I'll try to focus on what I can do around me instead of just getting angry every day about something stupid happening.

[–] some_guy 3 points 1 month ago

Agreed. Anger isn't useful. Action is.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 4 points 1 month ago

There's plenty to go around right here. Shit, there's communities dedicated exclusively to it.

Have you considered real life activism?
