Dogma is a comedy film about Catholicism. The movie is part of the Jay and Silent Bob series. Two fallen angels, played by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, are trying to end the universe through a "loophole" in Catholicism. Bethany, an abortion clinic worker is tasked with stopping the end of existence. She gets help from Jay and Silent Bob.

Dogma was in copyright limbo because the film was owned by sex criminal Harvey Weinstein (Miramax Films). Miramax sold the rights to the film in June 2024. The film was sold to film company Iconic Events.

I like the part where they exterminate the whole board of some company.

for real. I haven't watched it in a long time so it wouldn't surprise me if I am forgetting something yikes, but I remember liking it.

and I remember TradCaths shitting a brick over it, having no clue what it was about but parroting whatever inaccurate bullshit they heard from the clergy.

still makes me laugh that an aspect of catholic dogma would be the thing that destroys existence.

You ever see the footage of Kevin Smith himself attending one of those protests and getting interviewed by a news agency? Hilarious

Probably Kevin Smith's best film by a mile and I like his work

It's good! Aren't the angels just trying to go home (to heaven) though? I seem to recall that they're not trying to end the universe, that's just the consequence of them getting into heaven and they're not even aware of it.

was a great movie to pirate, since it was widely liked but unavailable on streaming or even physical media for quite some time

Video from yesterday shows Kevin Smith reacting to online reviews of Dogma. Half way through the video, Kevin says the Harvey Weinstein had purchased Miramax from Disney. Kevin offered $1 million to buy Dogma and Weinstein said no. Kevin says that a woman name Alessandra Williams purchased the film from Harvey Weinstein, Kevin said Harvey wanted $5 million but doesn't say how much Alessandra actually paid.

Nowhere near me, sadly. Good news is its getting a physical 4k release with a company he's "worked with" before (criterion i hope)
