Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today/ . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

I've managed to avoid this situation my entire life, I'm just built different I guess

[–] Feinsteins_Ghost@hexbear.net 28 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah I would just not get stuck.

Fucking amateurs.

friends... they're legally stuck due to judge blocking the flight. not actually stuck

Maybe they shouldn't have been there in the first place?

[–] Hestia@hexbear.net 34 points 1 day ago

Yep, that's me. You may be wondering how I got myself into this situation...

It all started with an executive order and my insatiable levels of bloodlust.

[–] KnilAdlez@hexbear.net 60 points 1 day ago

Wow, I really hope help comes for those poor deportees

[–] ZWQbpkzl@hexbear.net 51 points 1 day ago (2 children)

For a second I thought they actually tried to deport the immigrants via a shipping container and somehow were stupid enough to get in with them. But now that's what passes for temporary housing at the Djibouti base. It sounds like it sucks ass at that base in general.

It makes it seem like the empire has budget cuts to the outposts in Africa

[–] ZWQbpkzl@hexbear.net 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Sorry but thats just copium. Shit like this has been perfectly normal in any remote US outpost since WWII.

[–] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 5 points 1 day ago

Yeah you're right, but I did say "makes it seem like", but it's not surprising.

[–] Hestia@hexbear.net 4 points 1 day ago

Nope, they’re relatively cheap so they can be placed down en masse. It’s not about quality but quantity

[–] Hestia@hexbear.net 13 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Shipping container barracks are pretty common. I used to be part of the process in their fabrication back when I was pursuing a career in fabrication. I wanted to learn the process because I had homesteading pursuits that I felt like could be reached through similar methods. Constructed the right way, they'd be pretty comfortable if they weren't packed in there like sardines.

[–] AssortedBiscuits@hexbear.net 4 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Didn't we have a struggle session about repurposing used shipping containers as cheap housing?

[–] Hestia@hexbear.net 5 points 21 hours ago
[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

yeah maybe 10 years ago i could get a shipping container tiny home for ~30k and it seemed fine, slightly better than an apartment unit the same size

[–] Hestia@hexbear.net 10 points 1 day ago (3 children)

A part of me still has the desire to give it a shot, it’d be a lot more scaled up than a single unit though, I consider them to be building blocks. An idea I’ve wanted to do is have them in a hexagonal shape around the center with a inner garden sanctum

[–] infuziSporg@hexbear.net 2 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

You don't even need shipping containers to make this a reality.

[–] Hestia@hexbear.net 2 points 14 hours ago

True, but metal is the medium I know how to work with best and some sort of structure already there makes things easier, especially if you want to design it in a way that you can shift around as you see if and reconfigurate the layout as you expand

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 7 points 1 day ago

ooh yeah courtyards are fun

[–] BanSwitch2Buyers@hexbear.net 4 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Would be better, or at least easier. to just do a big rectangle with them with a courtyard inside I'd guess.

Posted on a rectangle. From a rectangle. Inside a rectangle. To a rectangle.

[–] PKMKII@hexbear.net 39 points 1 day ago

The thirteen ICE officials meanwhile, fell ill immediately after landing and are currently suffering from respiratory infections, as well as extreme heat and cramped living conditions.

I thought it was against the rules to share pornographic content

[–] HarryLime@hexbear.net 18 points 1 day ago

Fuck 'em, but also how do you even wind up in that situation???

[–] Beaver@hexbear.net 22 points 1 day ago

Poor babies, are you suffering from the hell on earth you yourselves have created?

[–] TommyBeans@hexbear.net 25 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I hope so much they (ICE) contract malaria or a heat stroke, whatever helps them enjoy their impromptu vacation. The language in that article is disgusting of course, hardly a word of concern for the “aliens” as they say.

Sending thoughts and prayers. Like I think this is hilarious and pray y'all reap what you sewed.

[–] No_Bark@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 day ago

This is like that bit from Silicone Valley when Jared gets trapped in a self driving car inside a shipping container, but these absolute morons did it to themselves lmao

I do feel bad about the deportees being stuck in there with them though. Thats got to be rough. Do you think there's a chance they all become friends afterwords, as if they had a very bonding sleep over?
