Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Once again, fuck Fetterman! He is a wolf barely concealed in sheep's clothing. I hope people recognize this not as a betrayal to the Democratic party, but to the United States.

Definitely wouldn't be the first time for him.

Here's another recent and very blatant example regarding the ban on state AI regulations

Maybe it's my specific media consumption, but the most chaotic thing I've seen from the LA protests are police using excessive force on protesters

[–] chuckleslord@lemmy.world 27 points 1 year ago

They did burn some Waymos. So, ya know, about 1/10th of a super bowl "victory celebration"

[–] teft@lemmy.world 63 points 1 year ago

Oh look Fetterman showing his true colors again. What a shock /s

[–] supersquirrel@sopuli.xyz 41 points 1 year ago

lol I consider that a prestigious endorsement of the protests tho

I hope his ass gets primaried next election, not sure if another democrat would win his district, but anythings better than having this guy pretending with the D next to his name.

The fact the Dems haven't kicked him out of the party is insane

[–] CmdrShepard49@sh.itjust.works 18 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Not if you've been following the party's actions over the last couple decades. Seems on brand.

[–] entwine413@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

I figured they would kick him out for being too on brand.

That boy needs to go outside if he thought, THAT was chaos.

Seen worse at my local grocery's

Links to news scroll that is constantly updated, not seeing the blurb. . .

Oh well, I got it. Just an FYI, I suppose.

[–] teft@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I get so mad at that type of news article. AP news does it a lot too.

[–] Bonus@piefed.social 2 points 1 year ago

Yeah, it's pretty lame. Should just link only to single articles so they can be updated.

Why does this always happen with progressive "icons"? Or is it just more noticeable when it does?

[–] AcidicBasicGlitch@lemm.ee 6 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

~~Who considers Fetterman a progressive icon? That dude has been a right leaning "moderate" at best~~

NVM, you mean Newsome? Probably because Trump is trying to instigate a civil war, and he needs red states to back him against a progressive boogey man.

I think back in an earlier election Fetterman was considered a worker's rights pro-union progressive. He even was supported by Bernie I believe.

The other one I'm thinking of was Krysten Sinema who everyone thought was progressive but stabbed workers in the back.

I'm not sure Newsom has ever been considered progressive. He's always been a pretty centrist Democrat.

To fetterman's (limited) credit, he was literally brain damaged from a stroke a few years back right before he switched sides

[–] Carrolade@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

This. There was a dramatic shift in his behavior pre-stroke to post-stroke. He also underwent treatment for depression afterwards. It definitely altered his brain.

[–] entwine413@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

Exactly. My father was a rational person until his TBI. Then he became a trumper and went full in on Ancient Aliens.

Progressive in terms of voters or in terms of the GOP?

If you're not supporting ~~the Führer~~ Trump and his policies, the GOP will claim you're a "progressive" being paid by George Soros. Anyone disagreeing and from California might as well just be wearing a shirt that says "I'm with Soros," from their perspective.

My governor does this all the fucking time, and I'm in Louisiana. Anytime something doesn't go his way, he claims it is due to outsiders like Soros influencing local politics. Yet he's literally run televised ads for his own policies that were paid for by a Heritage Foundation affiliate, and somehow that's ok.

I've been very disappointed by people like Newsome, and wasting time trying to compromise/reaching across the aisle to literal extremists bullshit that so many Dems have been playing since Jan, but I have to say, I truly believe he's handling Trump trying to instigate a federal takeover in the smartest way possible.

Blue states are not winning a fist fight right now, and that's why threatening to withhold federal taxes is the best strategy. I hope other blue states join him.

What Trump is expecting is taxation without representation. Why should anyone pay taxes to a king? This is America.

Newsom is the consummate neoliberal. He will stab both the left or the right in the neck any time he thinks it’s politically or economically beneficial for himself.
