Maybe after this, we can get back to Congressional approval for military action, point blank.

'Republicans' and 'bombing the middle east', name a more iconic duo.

This is one issue that is definitely not one-sided. Hell, Obama loved bombing the Middle East so much he actually used drones to assassinate American citizens.

[–] LibertyLizard@slrpnk.net -1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Have subsequent presidents done this or was it just Obama?

[–] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

That's a really good question, I honestly do not know, at least as American citizens are concerned.

They've certainly all had kill lists and supported unilateral drone bombing. Obama, though, was a bit infamous as having a kill list seemed to diverge in a very meaningful way from the charismatic, affable and progressive public persona he'd crafted for himself.

Who was the other Republican that Kamala was praising during her campaign while touring around with Liz & praising her father Dick Cheney? He'd sing a song that went something like, "Bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran."

Regardless, Trump will ignore it.

He'll want to, but every additional barrier - every reason for military personnel to legally refuse - is another chance for noncompliance and resistance.

Even if it just means it takes another day or two for him to discharge officers in his way and replace them with flunkies like he did with the DOJ.

The real issue is this will never pass Congress, but it's always good to take the opportunity to remind the people that Congress is complicit in this mess, and force them to write their names down for history to remember. No King rules alone.

All that doge shit was blatantly illegal and they still completely got away with it

Does it matter? The last time, one person, Barbara Lee, voted against the Iraq War. Congress has never met a war it didn't like.

[–] frogbellyratbone_@hexbear.net 11 points 3 days ago (1 children)

that was the Afghanistan war vote. the Iraq war was like 300 v. 100 or something like that.

but yah, agreed. this will never pass Congress. even if it did the Trump admin would ignore it

[–] Bronstein_Tardigrade@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I stand corrected. The US has so many wars going all at once it's hard to keep them all straight.

[–] frogbellyratbone_@hexbear.net 3 points 2 days ago

no for real. i regularly get tripped up when thinking about the 1970-80s and central/south america. "which country was it there was the school of the america's death squad again?"

This is just performative, Sanders has shown where his morals and ethics end

You can't call for "non-violence" in peaceful protests while your reputation rides on the photos of your arrest in a non-violent demonstration

time to retire grandpa, go spend time with your grandkids while the gears of the machine you spent your life building grind on

Because it will never happen, but it's the equivalent of virtue signaling, so the masses will buy it anyway
