Quick question. When a country involved in a conflict is holding some of your citizens hostage and you’re considering which side of the conflict to join, do you help or attack the country holding your citizens hostage?

Personally if I were in charge that would be something that caused me to attack the hostage taker, not join their side.

Look, if Israel is allowed to purposefully sink US warships, they'll be allowed to kill a bunch of US citizens.

Did anyone even get a slap on the wrist for Rachel Corrie's death?

Silly Billy; if a member of my family was taken hostage, OBVIOUSLY the worst enemies of the hostage taker are the REAL bad guys!

Also the hostage taker still needs more money from my family, including the people he took hostage, so I need to get on top of that.

[–] Infamousblt@hexbear.net 16 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

It depends. If the cops shoot your family that's because the hostage taker was the bad guy. But if someone shoots the cops because the cops took your family hostage then the person shooting the cops are also the bad guy. See your family doesn't matter only the Rules Based International Order matters and the cops can never do wrong.

Or something. I dunno I'm not a lib

recent history has taught me that you're supposed to bomb the area with the hostages still inside

[–] AnarchoAnarchist@hexbear.net 2 points 2 days ago

Also cut offs all food, water, fuel, medicine, and power to the region. Your family that is being held hostage isn't safe as long as they can access medical supplies or the occasional meal.

Lol Israel is going to try everything which might even include blowing themselves up to kill everyone around them. It's a distinctly real possibility.

Being friends with them is almost the same liability as being friends with the USA. So it's very funny they are friends with each other.

Let's find out what happens next!

Imagine naming your big ultimatum after a guy whose kryptonite is getting a haircut

[–] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 20 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I want Trump to post "If Israel does LASO - I will be mad. Very, very mad," and the reporters have no idea what he's talking about. And he doesn't explain but he just keeps posting about it "Israel NO LASO!"

[–] LocalOaf@hexbear.net 21 points 3 days ago (1 children)

a-little-trolling cowboy-cri

They're doing LASO folks! Not good! You know what this is? They do rope with the cowboy, and they go "bing bing bong" (mimes lassoing) and it's a horrible thing, just horrible.

[–] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 2 points 3 days ago

Release the hostages.

[–] casskaydee@hexbear.net 50 points 3 days ago (3 children)

Getting harder and harder to tell who holds the leash here. Is there any other nation in recent history that could get away with holding all US citizens residing there hostage?

[–] MizuTama@hexbear.net 28 points 3 days ago

You even see a small person with a big dog and it becomes a power struggle the moment they want to go even slightly different ways?

[–] ClimateStalin@hexbear.net 19 points 3 days ago

I’ve said it before, I don’t want to say the tail is wagging the dog here but I mean the dog really looks like it’s wagging!

If the tail isn’t wagging the dog it’s incredible how much they’ve made it look like it. What would look different here if Israel was the one really in charge, whether via interpersonal blackmail, nuclear blackmail, or conspiratorial cabal? Because it feels like if that was what was happening this is exactly what it would look like.

I feel like a normal person who doesn’t believe in Bigfoot and having to go “Fuck those are some size 18 footprints though”

Israel must release the hostages or something idk. Any American in Israel rn can get bent lol

[–] ClimateStalin@hexbear.net 2 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Nah I care about them, I’ll even say the United States should launch an invasion of Israel to ensure American hostages are returned

[–] SovietBeerTruckOperator@hexbear.net 48 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Lol like Trump will give a fucking shit.

[–] jackmaoist@hexbear.net 24 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Never doubt Trump's laziness.

[–] immuredanchorite@hexbear.net 41 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

lol, aren't like 30% of the settlers there US citizens?

[–] BanSwitch2Buyers@hexbear.net 3 points 3 days ago

I don't think it's that high. Maybe if you include US citizens + their Israeli children across the years. Axios says there were 600K Americans around Oct. 7th though not sure if that counts dual-citizenship people. They're out-numbered by Europeans according to Wikipedia. A lot of people also move their and then leave: "48% of all post-1990 departures (from Israel) and even 60% of 2003 and 2004 departures were former immigrants to Israel".
