Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

Idk... I typically find people with tattoos less aesthetically pleasing to look at.

I agree. The bare skin looks better imo, although I've met a handful of people who have tasteful tattoos that complement their looks. It's too much of an aesthetic balancing act for just anyone to pull off.

[–] Fleur_@aussie.zone 4 points 2 days ago

My caveat to that is that nobody pulls it off permanently

the same goes for me for all makeup & decorations

Personally: They can be tasteful but often arent.
On my GTA 5 character I have a butterfly moth as a full back piece. I could consider getting them but only as a small piece on my leg or something as it's way to edgy for a full piece.
Same for most other pieces.

Imo the only people who look good with tats are people who looked good anyways.

Mh .. doesn't look like it.

The US seems to have more tattoos than France or Germany, even though the later countries have a much larger nudist culture.

I'm glad you have data, because I was just thinking that cultural attitudes towards tattoos and nudity don't seem to be related, but I can't prove that.

I also don't think there is a connection, which is why I did a quick check if there even is a correlation.

Also having been to to nudists events and resorts several times I'd say tattoos are less prelevant than in the general population (Also a lot of nudists are seniors which seem to have fewer tattoos in general as well).

Personally, a lot of tattooed people I know get them in places where they "won't be seen." If they were nudists, they'd probably not get them at all.

[–] thatradomguy@lemmy.world 24 points 2 days ago

If nudity was more accepted, nudity would be more popular.

[–] Opinionhaver@feddit.uk 26 points 3 days ago (1 children)

They couldn't be much more popular than what they already are. Seems that nowdays it's rare to not have any.

[–] Beacon@fedia.io 3 points 3 days ago

Exactly, in my neck of the woods it seems like the majority of people under 60 have tattoos

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 13 points 3 days ago

Only among people who get tattoos for others...

For lots of people something as permanent as a tattoo isn't done to increase other's views, it's for a personal reason.

In the US it's probably going to be the flip. I like running around naked like anyone else would, but it's not as accepted here in the States as opposed to tattoos, and those are only still kind of accepted. I still get glances for mine and once received a church invitation from a lady I worked with. Lol Nudity, at least publicly, is going to take a while to be accepted. I mean, we have states like Texas banning nude statues for no reason, when otherwise there's never been an issue. Not to mention, if it's not that it's deemed unacceptable by religious fruitcakes, it's deemed something to gawk at or act stupid with by overly horny individuals, usually younger in age (though we all know there are some obvious older peeps as well who don't want nice things). I hate it here.

[–] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Absolutely not, but I might get back in the gym.

[–] sxan@midwest.social 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Mandatory nudity probably would improve general public health... for a while. Eventually, though, laziness would win and then we'd all be sorry.

[–] m4xie@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It would not improve public health up here in Canada, it would increase cases of frostbite.

The (US) city I live in is farther North than something like 70% of the population of your country!

Minneapolis. Continental US.

Most of Canada live in Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver BC; Minneapolis is father north than where the bulk of the population of Canada lives.

Edit: Figured you might want a source. 70% of Canadians live South of the 49th parallel.. Minneapolis lies near the 45th parallel.

I bet it'd also cause a huge comeback for those rub-on tattoos you used to get with bubblegum.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

Or not. Who wants to show off their tattooed mishaps?

[–] pirateKaiser@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 days ago

Don't know about tats, but I have a feeling obesity wouldn't be quite as popular if the way of expression was your body instead of your clothes
