Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. 5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Joining forces from three other Republican-led states, the Mississippi National Guard will deploy 200 troops to Washington as part of the Trump administration’s ongoing federal policing and immigration overhaul in the nation’s capital.

Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves said in a statement Monday that he has approved the deployment of approximately 200 Mississippi National Guard Soldiers to Washington, D.C.

“Crime is out of control there, and it’s clear something must be done to combat it,” Reeves said.

Mississippi joins three other states that have pledged to deploy hundreds of National Guard members to the nation’s capital to bolster the Republican administration’s operation aiming to transform policing in the Democratic-led city through a federal crackdown on crime and homelessness.

Seriously? Mississippi going to DC to tell them how to run a city? I say this as somebody in Louisiana who has spent most of my life in the deep south surrounded by a glass house, but everybody knows you need to focus on getting your shit together.

Trump is instigating a civil war.

It's not simply trump. He's just the talking head. The truth is probably far more dark.

It is and its publicly available information. Peter Thiel is one of the biggest players here and has said, on tape, that he wants to destroy democracy and America.

Mississippi has the second highest homicide rate in the country and they’re sending troops to DC to harass the homeless and anyone with brown skin. Maybe deal with your own shitty state first before invading others.

I'm from there. Many people there genuinely believe Mississippi is a better, safer State than most others in the country. And they absolutely believe Trump is saving the US from the liberals.

I cannot stress that enough, they actually believe progressives have been ruining the country since the 90s and that conservatives have been trying to save it.

I’m curious how it goes when you try reasoning with anyone. Do they just brush off what you say as lies?

Many people are so indoctrinated or poorly educated, or both, that they think you're the one who's ignorant or spreading misinformation. In my experience, at least.

Well, Mississippi is also one of the worst ranked in education.

You can’t reason people out of positions they didn’t reason themselves into.

What the fuck is happening? Now Mississippi is sending their National guard. I swear this is going to turn into an American Reichstag fire or another Tulsa race riot, considering the demographic of DC, I can see these southern racists equating cleaning up DC to getting rid of as much of the black population as possible

Thats it. Every day my son of at his moms and I’m financially able, I’m spending it protesting in DC.

Would be really cool if the hundreds of NG troops from the assorted states were to get together and capture the crime boss with 34 felonies and counting. Then pick up all the willing homeless people and bring them to shelter in the big white house at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. I hear it's got lots of bedrooms and bathrooms, and excellent staff, kitchen, and entertainment areas, even medical facilities!

It looks like the south actually won the civil war.

Because the north didn’t fuck them hard enough. When you take antibiotics, you take the full course to make sure the infection is completely eradicated. America didn’t take its full course of treatment and look what it grew back into.

That's why I've always said Andrew Johnson was our worst president. Or I used to.

[–] Carvex@lemmy.world 10 points 9 months ago

How dare that shithole state or its politicians make judgment on anywhere else in the world, especially having the highest percentage of non-diploma earners who have never left their county in their life

[–] RagingRobot@lemmy.world 9 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Why are all of the shittiest states sending their resources to dc when not even asked? Couldn't they use those resources in their own states? Like Texas just had crazy floods. Couldn't the national guard be helping them rebuild instead?

It's hurricane season and the 20th anniversary of Katrina... Choices.

[–] 9tr6gyp3@lemmy.world 8 points 9 months ago

Thats a lot of redcoats

[–] radiohead37@lemmy.world 8 points 9 months ago

The only acceptable outcome from all of this is that it will pave the way for DC to become the 51st state.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 7 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Weird that all the states with the lowest educational standards are lining up to help a felon rapist pedophile.

Who would have ever thought it could behoove a corrupt authoritarian government to keep people uneducated. If only I knew about other governments using the same tactic throughout history. Oh well, I can always just ask Grok to teach me about it.

The irony that Mississippi is sending troops to supposedly stop crime it's just so fucking funny. Has Louisiana done it yet? Cuz that would make it even worse.

Yep, they did it almost immediately after MS

[–] kreskin@lemmy.world 4 points 8 months ago

Probably the first time a lot of those mississippi troops had left the state in their whole lives.

[–] invertedspear@lemmy.zip 4 points 9 months ago

All these state governors are just so happy to sit in daddy trumps cuck chair. It would be hilarious if it weren’t also terrifying.

[–] chocrates@piefed.world 2 points 9 months ago (1 children)

How many troops will they need to police the capitals of all blue states? I feel like we are gonna run out of guardsmen soon

[–] Skyrmir@lemmy.world 1 points 9 months ago

About 250,000 to start, probably closer to 1.5 million by the time responses start.
