Pffff. This person is clearly incorrect about many aspects of this ๐Ÿ™„

[โ€“] Turret3857@infosec.pub 35 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Source? Peer reviewed source? I think theyre Correct as this has happened to ME. are you denying my experiences?

[โ€“] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 27 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Your opinion is bad, and you should feel bad!

[โ€“] thadah@piefed.blahaj.zone 8 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Come on, no need to fight, everyone knows you're both wrong!

[โ€“] Zozano@aussie.zone 5 points 5 months ago

Actually, I'm convinced they're both right.

[โ€“] Ulvain@sh.itjust.works 16 points 5 months ago (1 children)

[โ€“] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 9 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Well this is bullshit I have ADHD where the heck is all the dopamine?

[โ€“] wheezy@lemmy.ml 24 points 5 months ago (1 children)

It's a slow trickle. It's like the research that was done into gambling addicts. The majority of dopamine doesn't come from winning. The majority of it comes from the anticipation. Or in our case. Writing out a long comment that no one else will read.

[โ€“] baldingpudenda@lemmy.world 16 points 5 months ago (2 children)

Is THAT why I write a long response and then just delete instead of sending my reply?

[โ€“] cazssiew@lemmy.world 9 points 5 months ago

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that means you're unlikely to become addicted. You've course-corrected mid-post and now you're anticipating that the argument will be futile. A dopamine fiend would forge ahead hoping for some great win.

[โ€“] littlewonder@lemmy.world 3 points 5 months ago

That's just anxiety coming to the party.

[โ€“] Blue_Morpho@lemmy.world 15 points 5 months ago (1 children)

It doesn't mean you feel euphoric. It's more like a reinforcement. -an addiction.

[โ€“] oddlyqueer@lemmy.ml 9 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I know I was being flippant. What I mean is, the few (several...) times I've gotten into internet arguments I am always drained and unhappy and profoundly do not want to do it anymore, even if I am arguing over sincerely held beliefs. I guess I can see why trolling can be addictive, eliciting engagement is a kind of power over people, and power is addictive. And arguing over things I don't care about probably takes a lot less emotional investment than things I do care about... I feel like I'm talking myself into being an internet troll. Still though, seems like a miserable way to get your rocks off :/

[โ€“] bizarroland@lemmy.world 5 points 5 months ago

Yeah, typically when someone is trolling, they're doing it just to piss off the other person. Like, Bugs Bunny doesn't get worn out from torturing Elmer Fudd.

He stays bright and chipper and sassy the whole time while Elmer Fudd edges closer and closer to the aneurysm that will finally send him to hell.

It's because the only dog he has in the fight is you

I get a bigger kick by being helpful and sharing relevant content.

[โ€“] Donkter@lemmy.world 5 points 5 months ago

I helpfully tell people why they're misinformed cause I think learning is for everyone.

[โ€“] Rooster326@programming.dev 2 points 5 months ago (1 children)

We get it bruv, you win, you're definitely the most helpful rolls eyes

[โ€“] can@sh.itjust.works 6 points 5 months ago (1 children)

...I try my best

Whether that amounts to anything is still up to debate.

[โ€“] sad_detective_man@sopuli.xyz 4 points 5 months ago

Yesssssss then we get to debate

And people think I have an issue when I say " I gotta go start a random disagreement online with someone to feel better", I don't care if I lose.

[โ€“] 01189998819991197253@infosec.pub 5 points 5 months ago (1 children)

...you do have an issue. But you're not alone! Lol that's something

[โ€“] dumbass@aussie.zone 5 points 5 months ago

Well yeah, I have a plethora of them, but this isn't one.

[โ€“] bridgeenjoyer@sh.itjust.works 6 points 5 months ago (7 children)

So literally everyone has adhd now. Got it

[โ€“] LemmyKnowsBest@lemmy.world 4 points 5 months ago

I think increased screen time has contributed to more people developing symptoms of adhd. If we'd just go out and get a life, we'd be able to focus more long-attention span on things.

[โ€“] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 3 points 5 months ago

It's the Live Internet Theory. Everything you're reading is the sock puppets of one hyperfocused person getting all the dopamine.

[โ€“] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 5 months ago

Nah, just the cool kids. Welcome.

Often when I upset strangers online I feel bad and log out for a few months.

[โ€“] Red_October@hexbear.net 4 points 5 months ago

Yeah this has been making me almost miss the amount of bullshit I could easily clown on when I used reddit.

That is one reason why i love arguing

[โ€“] MiDaBa@lemmy.ml 3 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Dude, for sure you do NOT love arguing. I don't even think you like it. Just quietly accept that you're wrong.

That explains why I get antsy when I havent been online for a while. I cant argue with people endlessly in real life. Nobody likes that guy.
