My parents were watching the stream of the conference yesterday and the feed cut out multiple times because people kept coming up saying they were going to make a statement relevant to whatever vote was going on, only to immediately pivot to accusing some faction or other within the parry of being wreckers.

Absolute circus of a party.

agony-mescaline

stalin should have killed trotsky sooner

It also seems the 'right' of the party is successfully pushing for as big of a tent as possible, wanting to work with anyone under the umbrella of a "social alliance", even if the people involved are anything but social. What could go wrong.

Considering all the infighting and controversy that's already happened, and the dubious people they were putting in important positions (including a transphobic landlord), I expect more nonsense down the line.

You'd think Corbyn would've learned from his time in Labour, that letting the right wing of the party call all the shots only results in the party being torn apart and turned into Tory-lite.

[–] regul@hexbear.net 33 points 3 months ago (1 children)

The UK left is embarrassing, and I say that as an American.

[–] lil_tank@hexbear.net 14 points 3 months ago

At least the US has PSL

[–] Saapas@piefed.zip 28 points 3 months ago

The party is crumbling into infighting even before they've chosen a name lmao

[–] moss_icon@hexbear.net 24 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I supported Your Party for a whole, what, two days and then it was back to the Greens (even if they’re not as left wing as Corbyn I’ll genuinely do anything to prevent a Reform government).

Corbyn is just terrible at running a political party imo.

[–] starkillerfish@hexbear.net 13 points 3 months ago

i do wonder how the greens will seize this opportunity to grow / evolve. right now they seem very obama-coded promising hope and change. not sure if that is sustainable long term.

for corbyn, i completely agree. he is a great speaker but i dont think he is good at making decisions

[–] LadyCajAsca@hexbear.net 24 points 3 months ago (2 children)

For the love of god if 'Your Party' is chosen, I'm going to crash out what name is that?!

[–] hollowmines@hexbear.net 16 points 3 months ago (1 children)

The name question seems to be the least of their problems.

[–] ClathrateG@hexbear.net 15 points 3 months ago (1 children)

it not an insignificant one

I saw on a lefty fb group a macro saying 'I stand with Your Party' and had to explain to people why it sounded stupid

Popular alliance is only not entirely shit name up there

[–] ggtdbz@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 3 months ago (1 children)

β€œAn Actual Labor Party” was right there

[–] ClathrateG@hexbear.net 8 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Labor Party

[–] starkillerfish@hexbear.net 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I am joining you in the crashing out

[–] LadyCajAsca@hexbear.net 1 points 3 months ago

ooooooooooooooh I still can't believe those brits had the least creative idea and booked with it, they JUST separated from the "change" guy who surprise surprise did nothing and has the most MODEST of socdem reform and that crashed and burned.

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 24 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

All the uk trot groups are a hotbed of spycops, the only thing they do is try to wreck every single thing. Keeping them out will be a positive. Won't keep the wreckers out entirely but it'll reduce their numbers to a level that's less likely to get anything done.

tbf, that is also just what trots do

That's what makes it so perfect for the removed

Edit: Didn't expect that removed, is that word (ghost but beginning with s) problematic in this context? There's kinda a whole famous tv show with that word as its name.

[–] Azarova@hexbear.net 6 points 3 months ago (2 children)

It's also a slur for black people in the US

[–] LeeeroooyJeeenkiiins@hexbear.net 12 points 3 months ago (2 children)

it is but also I don't think Ive literally heard it used as a slur in my entire life, i'm pretty sure the generation that u.s it as a slur is either dead or actively dying

[–] LeninWeave@hexbear.net 9 points 3 months ago (1 children)

https://www.etymonline.com/columns/post/spooky-speculation

I don't think the etymology really supports much of a link between the use as a racial slur and the use to refer to undercover agents.

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 3 points 3 months ago

Ok good so I'm not being inadvertently racist then, phew.

[–] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I think Joe Biden said it once.

[–] comrade_pibb@hexbear.net 3 points 3 months ago

The only reason i know this is because of back to the future

[–] 7bicycles@hexbear.net 22 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Kudos to the people there voting for "Our Party" for having recognized this has been a clown show for a while, you might aswell try to get a "Who's on first?"-Bit out of it.

Your Party’s Shockat Adam says he would defy any party whip if there was a call to ban landlords, though says he’d always favour renters.

One of multiple landlords in the party said he'd vote against a bill banning landlords. shocked-pikachu

[–] Hyper_red@hexbear.net 18 points 3 months ago

Everyone should have given up on this the second corbyn decided to be bff's with bigoted landlords

IDK why British leftists need to grovel at the feet of an old man who has consistently showed he can't lead

[–] Carl@hexbear.net 17 points 3 months ago

Corbynism has yet to win One election

Lets not forget that Corbyn himself won two elections back to back within labor, and his failure was a failure to meaningfully seize power within the party at the behest of the movement that put him in charge.

I hope for Your Party's sake Corbyn and co have learned from this experience.

Plaid it is, I ain't voting GreenATOs but I understand if your in england and don't have a better option

[–] SexUnderSocialism@hexbear.net 14 points 3 months ago

Another week, another new Your Party infighting nonsense. I don't even know what to say anymore. Just embarrassing.

[–] plinky@hexbear.net 12 points 3 months ago

why it's so hard to organize around non-negotiable minimal program, jesus christ. this shit has been theorized for 100 years, including by brits like mcnair, but no. include some nicety that 75% should be real laborers (or have experience working real job for 10 years, whatever), and you have plausible party core.

[–] starkillerfish@hexbear.net 12 points 3 months ago

Corbynism has yet to win One election

to be fair, Corbyn did win on a local level.

[–] DivineChaos100@hexbear.net 7 points 3 months ago

Absolutely siding with the trots
