Fair, but there is definitely a line between chatty and psychological warfare. Not all cats are built equal and some of them want to see it to that a good night's sleep is forever out of reach. That'll literally drive you crazy, regardless of what mindset the silly humie is bringing

[–] Broadfern@lemmy.world 29 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

This is me and my cat.

During the day I love conversing with her but when she wants to kick me out of my room at 3 AM I question my sanity.

[–] Evil_Shrubbery@thelemmy.club 47 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Well, it's 3am, run around the house with her for a bit!
(She might not have anyone else to do it with?)

/s

[–] Broadfern@lemmy.world 17 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

She has co-felines plus I give her all sorts of attention during the day, as well lol.

She just doesn’t like me being in “her” space too long sometimes 😂

Lol, feline war cries at 3am - to battle!
(Stay strong.)

Explain to her that you talked about her oppressive habit online, maybe she'll become introspective & reflect on the matter :D.

(Also I'm glad she has other normal cats around <3.)

[–] kelpie_returns@lemmy.world 10 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Oof. I could not deal tbh. Closest I've come to this is a past roommates feline fellow (my two cats are more into claw-sports than yodeling; a very different kind of frustrating lol). He is otherwise a little sweetheart, but I definitely do not have the patience and strength of will she has in handling that near-everyday intrusion on her sleep. She is a saint, saddled with a cute little devil lol

We used to have a tabby that would wake me up at night for cuddles and pets. Often I'd lift up the blankets and she would curl up against me, under the covers, and stay there for 15-20 minutes (occasionally a lot longer).

I miss her so much.

One of our tuxedo cats usually doesn't wake me, but if he realizes I'm awake, he'll sometimes demand pets and cuddles.

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 8 points 3 weeks ago

Mine are fairly quiet vocally, but I'll be God damned if they ever let me catch a full night's rest. The hours of 3-5a are crash bang time.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago

yeah, i kept waking up with unexplained little bruises on my thighs and belly. stayed awake past midnight one night and saw my orange dishpit waggling his butt as he prepared to pounce on my crotch. bruises were the same size as his paws.

Here's a version with less weird whitespace.

[–] Snowpix@lemmy.ca 29 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Here's a version with even less weird whitespace.

Some negative space is good, but not zero, and not too much. 😆

[–] Pat_Riot@lemmy.today 35 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

My cat is a bastard, a grouchy, always hungry curmudgeon. He does not sing, he yells at you with a voice like Lemmy Killmeister smoking and gargling Jack Daniels.

[–] Sergio@piefed.social 15 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

I totally would hang with your cat! I might even record him and put him over an industrial beat.

[–] Pat_Riot@lemmy.today 12 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

I have considered doing exactly that several times. The thing is, he won't make a peep when I start recording.

[–] Sergio@piefed.social 6 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Hmm... maybe you need to negotiate a deal first. Tell them you'll give them a treat in exchange for a recording, then let them think about it for a while.

[–] Pat_Riot@lemmy.today 4 points 3 weeks ago

He's more likely to smash a cheeseburger into my mixing console for trying to make him do work.

[–] edgemaster72@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

ABCR, always be cat recording

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 7 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Slam poetry style.

Meow,

My life is fart.

Meow,

And if you're smart.

Meow,

You'll fucking feed me!

¡Egualmente!

[–] Godric@lemmy.world 25 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Aw a cute little very loud unending song at 3:30 in the morning when I have work the next day, how kind!

[–] paraphrand@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

Meeerrroowwww!

[–] Apeman42@lemmy.world 19 points 3 weeks ago

One of my cats has a high voice and has learned to do perfect attention-seeking sad meows when she wants attention and is too lazy to find me, and sings a loud frantic song to motivate me as I prepare food.

The other one purrs with the depth and volume of a large diesel engine, but mostly only lets out her low raspy meow to complain, which could be anything from "open the window" to "why did you stop petting me for .5 seconds?"

If I were casting voices for them in some type of Homeward Bound-type movie, they'd be Mila Kunis and Jennifer Tilly respectively.

Oh yeah but it's ok when humans install a fascist government just bc they can't stock their fridge completely full. (/jk) (kinda....)

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 2 points 3 weeks ago

I am so very confused.

[–] dethedrus@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

I have a variety of cat chattiness.

Buttons (16 year old Tonkinese) is VERY chatty and very loud at times. The latter mostly due to being deaf or nearly so, but she's always been quite talkative.

Serenity (13 year old Calico) only makes noise when hungry or interacting with other cats. And none of those are pleasant.

Mizu (a bit over a year, hard to pin down stray) is VERY quiet unless it's food or play time. Even then, her trills are still rather subdued.

[–] captain_aggravated@sh.itjust.works 4 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

That's a Tonk. Siamese and Tonkinese are just motor mouths.

[–] dethedrus@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 3 weeks ago

They are! And I really enjoy it 99.9% of the time.

[–] MutilationWave@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 3 weeks ago

I have some kind of mutt brothers that are part Siamese. One of them looks straight up like it with blue eyes. He's confirmed mentally "special" by the vet. He's great, but his meow is broken. It sounds guttural and he rarely uses it. May be related to his mouth issues.

[–] Echolynx@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I've heard Tonkinese are pretty chatty in general, isn't that so?

[–] dethedrus@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 3 weeks ago

Her brother (died in July) was also very talkative. And shaped like a pug.

[–] Evil_Shrubbery@thelemmy.club 10 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

Yes!

I get that all things have some limits, but in this case of a chatty cat it would just have to be so unimaginably bad that such a rarity would basically not happen.

I also unwillingly lose respect for ppl that want their cats to be quiet.
It's like they want a piece of furniture, an ornament, not a living being - actually worse, a living being to not really be itself.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

our cats are an orange dipshit and a calico dumpster baby. we lost our previous calico to total body failure. it took us a year to be ready for another cat, and that year was way too quiet. whenever i hear ours chirp at us or mew at each other it's a delight.

I love conversing with my boy. He always has interesting things to say. More so than most people.

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 9 points 3 weeks ago

One of mine let's out the cutest little meow every time I reach out to pet her. I live for that little mow!

[–] waggz@programming.dev 7 points 3 weeks ago

i have one that if he is moving within sight of me he is meowing, it's so cute as his little bounces affect the meows. the other one is super stealthy, until he has to poop, and then lets the while neighborhood know with a few minutes of outright yowls first. and yes, he's fine, he's just done it for 14 years

[–] LaunchesKayaks@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago

My one cat is soooo loud. Her face thing is to come up to me while I'm on work calls and meow right into the microphone.

[–] Aeri@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago

I love chatty cats.

What I don't love is how mine will harass me excessively as I'm preparing for work. He'll just scream at me to let him out, like, fuck you man I still have like 10 minutes of showering and making coffee and shit you can go outside when I leave. This is how it is every day.

Yes, I know you shouldn't let your cat outside, but he's at least 10 years old, he's set in his ways, he will unleash hell if impounded.

[–] Bazell@lemmy.zip 7 points 3 weeks ago

Not at 3 a.m.

[–] Echolynx@lemmy.zip 4 points 3 weeks ago

My cat only meows when she's upset or annoyed or angry. Her trills are so cute when she does, though. What I'd do for a chatty cat!

[–] Avicenna@programming.dev 4 points 3 weeks ago

chatty cats are the absolute best

[–] CileTheSane@lemmy.ca 3 points 3 weeks ago

All she has to say is "feed me."

I don't feed you. The automatic feeder will feed at the same time it feeds you every day.

[–] Jankatarch@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

They are subcatagory of "people who hate cats." Of course they suck.

[–] FinishingDutch@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

There are people who dislike that??

I always think it’s wonderful when you and an animal can communicate. It might not always be as effective, but it’s an important part of connecting with someone. Human or animal.
