Boycott US

Overview:

The community dedicated to boycotting the US until they stop fascism, restore full democracy and start following international law.

Americans have a moral obligation to resist Donald Trump and project 2025 at every turn.

America is a flawed democracy currently being ruled by oligarchs. Stop the backslide! Dont let America become the next Hungary.

America needs to challenge the court rulings of citizens united v. fec and shelby county v. holder, protect the media, implement independent district drawing, and the single transferable vote so they don't end up having people stay home in life-changing elections because they cannot vote for their favourite candidate.

Really, this is what it took? Being a dangerous shitty place to visit wasn't enough?

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 9 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Why would anyone want to travel to a country with values based on racism, ignorance and obesity. Fascism is just the cherry on top.

Don't forget preventable diseases

It's not the only thing, it is simply another straw on the camel's back.

[–] ozymandias@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 months ago

Well australia is already full of poisonous drop bears so it’s not much safer there…

I want this to be true, and I have no plans to go back, but 'ditch' may be a bit strong. Actually tourism is down 4%-6% according to the article, and that's definitely a lot if you own a hotel, but not as many people are changing their plans as one would expect/think.

Holidays are often booked a few months in advance. I predict this number will be at least doubled next year.

[–] AndyMFK@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 3 months ago

That article compares it to pre-COVID numbers which they claim is down about 50%

It's crazy to me that anyone is still traveling to the USA...

But my neighbors are taking their kid to Hawaii next month

[–] ieGod@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 months ago

I'd like to see the comparison including Canada and Mexico.

I bet the tech bros will be lobbying hard to kill this. It's gonna hurt their userbase.

[–] Reannlegge@lemmy.ca 4 points 3 months ago

The big ones have already bowed, probably cause they know kiddos will be able to get around any lock.

[–] FlyingCircus@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

When you have a monopoly and a captured customer base, it doesn’t matter what happens to your users. Although, yes, tech bros tend to get mad if someone else is abusing their serfs.

[–] ScoffingLizard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 months ago

The serfs are too dumb. They will give up all their private stuff and pretend it is okay for a temporary convenience. We're really just animals that talk and walk upright.

[–] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 months ago

It's soo excessive to follow.

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 8 points 2 months ago

I’m sure I could get away with not giving my Lemmy records because nobody knows what it is.

US’ tourism boards are screwed, but they don’t know it yet.
They still think they can lure Canadians over the border with discount vouchers, after the “51 state” threat from their commander in cheetos.

[–] flock_of_nazguls@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Nope. We're done.

[–] MissingGhost@lemmy.ml 4 points 2 months ago

As a Canadian I used to travel to the USA. They are just a few hundred kilometers away by car. I have friends there. I haven't been in a while and let my friends know it wasn't safe for us to go. They are welcome to go to America's biggest country to visit us instead. Also I don't use Facebook or Instagram or Snapchat or whatever.

Disney must love donating all that money to Trump now

People are freaking out over the social media ... but not the names and addresses of all your family and the DNA sample?

People have weird priorities, yo!
