Season 19 of Taskmaster was off the chain. Jason Mantzoukas is 1000% the maniac you think he is.

[–] abc@hexbear.net 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

No one gives Fatiha the respect she deserves but yeah 19 is up there (S4, S13, and S16 are the goated series though, special consideration to S8 because that was the first one I caught live)

[–] HiImThomasPynchon@hexbear.net 3 points 4 days ago

I agree that Fatiha is good but Jason Mantzoukas and Matt Baynton are tough competition.

I've gone down a Taskmaster rabbit hole since watching Season 19 first with Jason. Currently watching Season 4 UK, as after watching Seasons 1 and 2 of both UK and New Zealand

Don't forget Australia!

I demand a part 3 to the Season 19 outtakes. They're holding out on us!

[–] Champoloo@hexbear.net 4 points 4 days ago

Yeah but some of it seemed a bit forced.

Andor S2 and Silo were the only ones I watched this year, both slapped

Mussolini, son of the century.

Absolutely leaps better than tv as a medium should be. A show made by us for us (commies).

Silo? Really?

Going to have to go with Andor season 2, then Severance season 2, then Pluribus, then The Pitt in that order.

Least favorite - The Bear.

Least favorite - The Bear.

Cousin? catgirl-cry

Lol, I'd have been satisfied if they just wrapped it up at the end of the first season. Not liking how it feels like they're gonna drag it out forever.

I worked in restaurants for MANY years. I fucking hate that show. I also hate pretentious restaurants, so take this one with a few grains of salt.

Interview with the Vampire

Season two just came out (for me at least).

The Rehearsal season 2 was really good but I also quite enjoyed The Chair Company so its hard to pick

[–] Champoloo@hexbear.net 5 points 4 days ago

I really enjoyed The Rehearsal, gonna check The Chair Company out.

I had to look up what aired in 2025 because I couldn't remember.

Stranger Things S5

Meh. The show repeats the same plot beats every season. We're too far removed from the 2016-era 80s nostalgia stuff for me to care that they licensed an 80s pop song again.

The Last of Us S2

Never played the games so idc about canon. The show dumped after Ep 2 and really embraced its Zionist metaphor. So now the show is Jeffrey Wright, who has some questionable politics, doing an impression of an IDC commander.

The Bear S4

I barely remember this. I think it was good? They should probably start wrapping it up.

Wednesday S2

Only had one good episode -- the body swap one.

Silo S2

Terrible.

Slow Horses S5

Enjoyed it. I can't say that it's the best writing but the sleezy spy stuff gets me.

The White Lotus S3

It was okay. I think S1 still had the best political themes.

Severance S2

It was okay.

Gen V S2

Hamish Linklater was good but otherwise it's a bad show.

Andor S2

Decent wrap-up to the show.

The Chair Company S1

I enjoyed it. I'm a little worried by the ending that it may go too absurd. We will see.

Pluribus S1

I want to watch the finale and sit on it for a bit before rendering a complete opinion. It's okay so far. Kinda too early to tell even with the season finale next week.

The Pitt S1

I'm not into medical dramas. The last one I cared about was House. It feels very realistic in terms of jargon and what you see doctors do. I don't think it will replace House in my mind. It's fine.

I wouldn't say I have a particular favorite. None of them stood out to me as mind-blowing or groundbreaking. It's mainly continuations of established shows and some of them I'm just in it for the sunken cost.

[–] BoxedFenders@hexbear.net 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Damn, you're hard to please if you thought Andor S2 was only "decent".

[–] thefunkycomitatus@hexbear.net 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I'm pretty anhedonic so most things are just fine or decent for me.

Wow... And here I am, confident that it's going to be studied in film and acting schools for generations.

I liked it a lot but I dont think it was my favourite show of the year.

[–] Blep@hexbear.net 3 points 4 days ago

I dont think i watched anything else notable. Im watching pluribus but I'll wait for the finale to make a real opinion

Alien: Earth. but I've barely watched any TV lately because I've been working a lot

It's good imo, but somehow uncomfortable, like the pacing feels off to me? Idk

[–] prismatic@ttrpg.network 3 points 4 days ago

There is some recency bias, but Pluribus as well. It's the only water cooler show I've come across in years where people actually want to talk about in real life.

Perfect Strangers

[–] wolfinthewoods@hexbear.net 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Does Anime count? Because it would be Mushishi

[–] abc@hexbear.net 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)
[–] wolfinthewoods@hexbear.net 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Seriously one of the best anime I've seen in my life. Apparently there's a live action movie that came out in '06 too, I'm going to have to track that down.

[–] abc@hexbear.net 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Eh the Live Action is mid (if I'm being generous) imo but I am a big 'live action adaptation' hater for all forms of media so my opinion on those things shouldn't really be counted because I think they all suck (your live-action Fallout, your live-action One Piece, your live-action Cowboy Bebop, your live-action Death Note, so on and so forth all the way back to the Eragon movie) except for Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon which is kino.

Anyways Raindrops and Rainbows & Lightning's End are some of those episodes of anime I'll make an "anime is just for gooners/kids" hater watch. So good. And now that I think about it, I think all of the weather adjacent episodes of Mushishi are my favorites. The one with the lady who predicts the rain? Kino. The siblings who one falls asleep every winter? Kino.
