  • Brush: Chisel and Hound – Screwdjriver with v28 Fanchurian
  • Razor: Heljestrand 14 (7/8", full hollow, carbon steel)
  • Lather: Barrister and Mann – Hallows
  • Post Shave: Barrister and Mann – Hallows

Ok, Hallows fell flat and got the wife's veto. It happens. Otherwise great shave with the full hollow Heljestrand.

Adventus Day 15

The soap for today is the honest to God Shulton Old Spice soap (3.0 oz mug refill). I don't have an Old Spice mug (yet) so I just held it with my hand.

I have no idea why they stopped making this. It made a nice lather with a 30-second brush load. Plenty of product for my normal face shave, lower neck and around my ears. It was slick and had a great scent throughout.

I recently acquired a Shulton Old Spice EdC and talc powder from a local antique shop. I don't have the aftershave yet.

I also received a sample of LA Shaving Soap Co. Black Rose in today's satchel.

Have a good Sunday!

I used Shulton Old Spice aftershave for years before Shulton sold it and it became over-marketed. I have the original soap and aftershave now. I could easily go back to using it everyday. Even by today's standards, the soap is pretty good, and for me, nothing beats the original Old Spice aftershave.

  • Brush: Chisel and Hound – Screwdjriver with v28 Fanchurian
  • Razor: C.V. Heljestrand MK β„– 10 (6/8", square point, half hollow, carbon steel)
  • Lather: Catie's Bubbles – Dranks
  • Post Shave: Catie's Bubbles – Dranks
  • Fragrance: Catie's Bubbles – Dranks

Dranks is some good stuff, glad I sprung for it. Today was one of those rare (for me) shaves of multiple days of beard. I've been recovering from a nasty pneumonia and shaving wasn't a priority, but today, my lungs don't rattle anymore when I breathe, so cheering with Dranks seems like a good choice. Looks like I'm getting better just in time for the holidays.

Glad to hear you’re getting better, pneumonia is no joke!

Oh yeah, not fun at all, and a bit scary in the moment

[–] DaveWave94@wetshav.ing 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Glad to hear you're on the road to recovery! Pneumonia is a very serious condition, so it's good that you're able to breathe easier. Hope you're able to make a full recovery by January!

[–] djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Thanks! I'm recovering nicely, and it feels like I'll be back on skis by January 🀞

[–] DaveWave94@wetshav.ing 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Pneumonia usually requires intense medication (antibiotics, glucocorticoids, inhalations, etc.), and breathing exercises once it's getting better. I'm sure you'll manage it together with your doctor(s). Downhill Skiing would be a great activity once you've recovered, since it's outdoors with plenty oxygen around and not too strenuous on the body πŸ‘πŸ»

[–] djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

antibiotics, glucocorticoids, inhalations, etc

Yup, it's one of the more impressive prescriptionsπŸ˜₯

[–] DaveWave94@wetshav.ing 2 points 3 days ago

Don't worry. I'm sure it's quite a lot to handle atm, and the side effects like diarrhea, stomach cramps and a puffy face aren't very charming either. Still, it beats the slow and dreadful death by asphyxiation from severe pneumonia. I believe in you, and if you take it slowly (step by step), you'll be back to your usual self soon! Wishing you a speedy & full recovery πŸ€

Very glad to hear you're on the mend. I think the β„– 10 is an undiscovered gem. I am always surprised by how good it is.

[–] djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Agreed. It's like the TI Le Dandy or the Puma 88 that way: the geometry isn't special in any way, but they shave great I suspect it's the steel that feels so nice?

I think the steel is a major factor. Also, the build quality of these Heljestrands is so satisfying.

  • Razor: GEM Micromatic Open Comb (Gen. 2)
  • Blade: Accuforge GEM Microcoat (9)
  • Lather: Oaken Labs - Earth of Mankind - Soap
  • Post Shave: Oaken Labs - Earth of Mankind - Aftershave
  • Post Shave: Oleo & Co. - Facial Toner - Toner
  • Fragrance: Stirling - Haverford - EdT

Nice shave. I'm not sure I love Earth of Mankind, but it made an easy and slick lather.

I feel like there might be enough overlap between this scent and Dirtyver to justify moving it along. We'll see...

  • Brush: Stirling Soap Co. 24mm Synthetic
  • Razor: Gillette Tech
  • Blade: Personna Platinum Chrome (2)
  • Lather: Chiseled Face - Ghost Town Barber - Soap
  • Post Shave: Brut - Brut - Splash On
  • Post Shave: Goodfellow & Co. - Kelp & Sea Mineral - Lotion

Not too bad, but not my favorite razor/blade combo. I think tomorrow is tub kill day unless I stretch it, which is totally doable with this base.
