I don't care to call anyone something that they'd find offensive, but I'm kinda interested in being fed a bag of old hammers. Will they be cooked in some way to improve their texture and flavor? I've been good, I think I deserve a Hammer Meal.

Never heard of "t-girl" before.

Does the term have history? I get that it is offensive, I'm just missing the why.

I have the same visceral reaction when people refer to trans women as "a trans" or "a transwoman", same goes for trans men

I do, however, love "doll"

Yeah I hate those hut T girl is fine to me aswell as doll

[–] TotallynotJessica@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I get that. I wouldn't mind "doll" as just an old timey word for women in general, but as a word for trans women it doesn't feel right.

[–] Kayday@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

I understood "doll" to be a word that trans women call each other, which I like. I would not like being called doll by someone other than a trans woman.

[–] apotheotic@beehaw.org 6 points 2 days ago

Oh I for sure understand why anyone might not like the term for themself

Make sure you wear sunscreen even if you’re a tans woman.

She misspelled it, but decided it was funny so left it in.

I prefer girl or that bitch over there

But I am about as neutral to tgirl as I am trans girl because they are both terms that refer to the same thing although I can see why, the only one that I have that visceral a reaction to is the t slur that is also really common to describe us on those sites and being called a trans is almost as bad but not quite although I hate both quite a bit

[–] Eladriagon@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Seconded... if it's that other T-word we're both thinking of (there's a V in there too...) yeah, just... ick. 🤮 Such a dated, horrid word.

[–] Valarie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 hours ago

Wasn't the t slur I was thinking but agreed it is gross

I was thinking the nny one but i even thinking about the v one.

Why are there so many fucking popular t slurs for us

[–] DarkSirrush@piefed.ca 26 points 2 days ago (5 children)

I could never imaging referring to someone by a porn category, that's just gross.

[–] GalacticSushi@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

You can call me amateur

[–] SeductiveTortoise@piefed.social 22 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

I tried to come up with a clever response, but I don't know porn categories and have to read into it first. Give me some time please.

Irony aside, yeah. Don't do that.

OK, I checked. The three that fit best are funny, German and solo male.

Nothing, but being a German I think the porn category describes me. I have no clue what's behind that category, but the label fits.

Knowing the stereotypes, it's probably dirndl, sausage and beer.

[–] CyberEgg@discuss.tchncs.de 7 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

It's just language and actors.

Underwhelming 😞

[–] kkj@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 2 days ago

You can call me "big dick" if you want.

[–] stray@pawb.social 3 points 2 days ago

I had no idea it was a porn category, so thank you for this post.

[–] PyroNeurosis@lemmy.blahaj.zone 13 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I'm only familiar with 'doll' in the crime noir sense. While it has very misogynist connotations, I don't see it as being among the worst.

Point being, I know I'm missing something, but don't know what.

[–] TotallynotJessica@lemmy.blahaj.zone 13 points 2 days ago (2 children)

There's been a bit of a catchphrase that certain allies use to signal their support: "Protect the dolls." Apparently "doll" was once used to refer to trans women, which is all fine and dandy for people that like it. However, it is not a term I knew about before the catchphrase, nor is it one I particularly like. It comes off as kinda icky and objectifying to me.

Dolls are plastic facsimiles of "real" girls that are used as a child's plaything. Definitely grosses me out when people use it as a phrase specifically for trans women. It's a term that needlessly others us. Just call us women, if the situation calls for specifying that we're trans call us trans women.

I don't really mind if it's being used as a term of endearment between women, but I'm not a fan of it coming from men or being used as a trans-specific term.

[–] stray@pawb.social 3 points 2 days ago

It sounds like a category alongside Marthas, Wives, and Handmaids.

[–] DarkSirrush@piefed.ca 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It infers they are fake, not a real woman, just a facsimile of one.

It's also pretty infantilizing. Dolls are a child's plaything, the implication is that we're just dressing up and playing make believe.

Weirdly I'm nonbinary and not a woman, but I don't mind being called a girl 🤷‍♀️

🍿🍿🍿

(also, "tans woman"?)

[–] TotallynotJessica@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I'm not against people calling themselves things, I just don't want people to ascribe terms to me.

[–] kkj@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 days ago

Totally fair, I just see the two of you posting a lot of similar content and thought it was a funny coincidence.
