Moderator Guidelines
Moderator Guidelines
- Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
- Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
- When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
- Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
- Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
- Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
- Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
- Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
- Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
- Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
- Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
- Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
- First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
- Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
- No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
- Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
- Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.
Unrealistic. Straight people only exist in a fantasy setting
Straight people? Gay.
Missionary was involved, wasn’t it?
Possibly also handholding. And whatever the straight equivalent of yuri would be.
wouldn't a fantasy setting just use oil like people used to? clove oil was pretty popular for butt stuff
Olive oil was used by ancient Greeks for wrestling, and probably they used it for sex as well.
That sounds like it would burn, no?
In my works, I just write Astroglythe if it's medieval and A5-troglide if it's sci-fi.
Why even mention lube?
Does it contribute anything to the broader narrative? Does anyone LIKE using lube?
What actual function does describing lube at all have in whatever unholy abomination this basement-dweller writes?
Just like with any kind of story, there are many readers who enjoy immersing themselves into a character's experiences, and for that kind of reader fine details can be very important. Especially when the pleasure derived from said experience hinges almost entirely upon its inclusion. If you are glossing over the entire intimate act you can probably skip it. But in erotica, the intimate details are part of the point in most cases.
I… not to particularly defend erotica but isn’t the foreplay and getting lubed and all kinda… part of it? It’s not like people are gonna go seek out and read someone’s erotica that’s like “and then he fucked me. It was adequate. Please cum.”
“and then he fucked me. It was adequate. Please cum.”
Vulcan love slave back at it again.
Because if you write about homogay buttsex without mentioning lube it's just unrealistic.
I mean, it is a fantasy setting. The realism is already out with the "I magic 3Tbsp. of precum into your butt" line
It still needs to be somewhat realistic. "I met John, another gay man. We shook hands and signed a BrainLink® waiver to proceed with the previously agreed upon virtual sexual activities. We connected via direct brain-brain link and immediately proceeded to have a 15 minute orgasm. Unfortunately, we didn't pay for the premium subscription to get unlimited time orgasms, but nevertheless, it still beats the ancient unhygienic methods." is probably not going to give anyone a boner.
How is any of that magic? That's just Monday.
it's very valuable to be accurate about this stiff
erotic material is often the only sex education people get, why do you think most men are so bad at female anatomy and sex?
There are two types of worldbuilders:
"I want to add teleportation to my fantasy setting."
Literally invents wormholes and quantum physics in-universe to justify that one guy.
"i want to add railguns to my fantasy setting."
Randomly drops a railgun out of the sky.
I actually got started writing erotica because I was so annoyed at erotica that was absurd in terms of anatomy. Like no, it is not possible for a penis to go past the cervix, and even if it were possible, it certainly wouldn't be pleasurable
