  • Brush: Simpson Chubby 2 Super Badger
  • Razor: Wade & Butcher The Celebrated Hollow Ground Razor For Barber’s Use (8/8" quarter hollow, barber's notch, carbon steel)
  • Lather: Mitchell's – Wool Fat
  • Post Shave: D.R. Harris – Marlborough

To celebrate my newly arrived Celebrated, I went with a fully British setup. This chonky razor came actually shave ready from eBay – a first for me, and it's a very pleasant razor. Silent like a wedge, very smooth, and look how pretty it is 🀩

Always such a nice post shave feel with The Fat.

That hasn't happened for me.

Oh yes. I heard about the tallow formulation's demise too late to get a backup puck, so once this is gone, it's really good

Very nice shave, though a bit rushed. We've had people here working on the heat since this morning, but luckily enough hot water for showers in between it being broken.

[–] gcgallant@sub.wetshaving.social 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Terrible time of year to have the heat go out! Murphy's Law, of course.

[–] walden@wetshav.ing 3 points 4 days ago

It didn't get too chilly inside, luckily. It was only in the 30's (F) today.

The heat is back on, by the way! The burner is less than 2 months old, and they replaced the (pardon me for probably getting some of these parts wrong) igniters, nozzle, primary coil, and CAD cell (flame detector). Just threw a bunch of parts at it until it worked (a valid method of repair, sometimes!).

I'm glad we have a service contract which is about $400 a year -- we got our money's worth with the old system, and again it's proving to be worth it with a brand new system.

Adventus Day 17

I had a really nice shave today with Gunpowder Spice from The Holy Black. It had a medium strength scent throughout, Old Spicey with puffs of black powder. Ghost Town Barber aftershave makes an interesting combination with it. The lather was slick and provided decent protection. The alum gave me an "A."

Today's satchel also had Barrister & Mann The Four Horsemen Plague aftershave and War shaving soap. I think I'll keep these to conclude a future Midnight Stag run.

Merry Christmas Eve Eve!

Off of a tub, I would agree with your medium-strength assessment, but the spice and gunpowder always get my attention the way a stronger scent would. What was your take on the addition of black powder?

[–] pi_dash_rho@wetshav.ing 2 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

I liked it. It's an interesting addition of a darker scent to counter the light citrus notes (black powder itself being charcoal, sulfur, and saltpeter). I think it is similar to how Twice As Spice's cedar note popped out.

It is an interesting scent. I think it is a staple at The Holy Black, but perhaps Wholly Kaw has moved on from a similar interpretation of it.

  • Brush: Grizzly Bay Shire 26mm V18 Fanchurian
  • Razor: Filarmonica 13 Novodur 13/16" Para Profesionales Full Hollow
  • Lather: The Cajun Blade - Atchafalaya - Soap
  • Toner: Thayers - Cucumber - Toner
  • Aftershave: The Cajun Blade - Atchafalaya Aftersauce - Aftershave
  • Fragrance: The Cajun Blade - Atchafalaya - Eau de Parfum

3 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

Today was my first use of Atchafalaya from The Cajun Blade. This is a very interesting fragrance that is inspired by the Atchafalaya River Basin in the spring. This one is lighter and more nuanced than you might expect. I really enjoyed it and look forward to using it often.
