Personally I think these numbers reflect levels of acceptance amonst generation vs actual % lgbtq+. Real number is probably closer to Gen z stats I would think.
LOL I don’t think people just suddenly became more gay over the last 80 years. This more likely reflects how people publicly identify and society’s acceptance and perceptions.
I’d bet the distribution across the spectrum has been roughly the same since humans had the concept of such social constructs.

I like how people pretend that lots of kids aren't using it as a means to profile themselves socially without actually being queer, because it's the hip in-group thing to do.
I have a nephew who came out as trans a couple of years ago. Literally nothing changed, looks the same, acts the same, dresses the same, behaves the same, only changed his name and gender randomly one day. And everyone has to accept that because not to do so would be a horrific crime against humanity for some reason.
As if kids don't make up dumb shit about themselves for attention, out of peer pressure, to fit in, as a fashion statement, to use as a shield to hide behind, to use as a moral superiority mechanism and berate others who don't unconditionally accept whatever they say, or as a means to get sympathy.
The discourse is pretty ridiculous. Is trans a real thing? Absolutely. Is "queer" a social movement that is subject to the same social psychological dynamics as literally all other cultural norms? Absolutely.
I'm sure there are some that do this. Thats why I say I think the 25% is probably the accurate statistic. Kids will be kids and people are programmed to be social and do what needs to be done to fit in socially or they will be ostrosized from the village/pack. On the other hand I'm sure there are also plenty of people who will identity as cis. For similar social reasons or personal ones.

The reason the discourse is so scuffed is because pro-trans advocates have had to dig their heels in so much because of the fact there are plenty of anti-trans advocates who would happily lynch trans people. It's basically don't give an inch or they'll take a mile shit, which shouldn't be a thing but they aren't wrong either.
As for teens doing that, eh worst case scenario they waste some time and effort resulting in something to embarrass them with in a couple years. Better to get the data and figure out why rather than skipping forward 20 years and realizing that's why they were so miserable.

Not just acceptance but also expanding definitions probably. That + has taken on a lot more meanings in the last few decades. A lot of people who didn't think they fit in a narrow definition before now have more options to allow self-determination.
Unfortunately not just levels of acceptance I'd wager. But survival rates.

Even if you assume every person that’s ever died of HIV/AIDS in the United States was a homosexual boomer, that would only raise their generation’s homosexuality rate by one percent.
You think that the people who purposely allowed hundreds of thousands of gay people to die of AIDS didn't do anything else? That was the only single stain on them? That gays were accepted?
No? There were certainly lynchings, suicides, HIV deaths. But the amount that didn’t survive doesn’t number in the tens of millions. The disparity in rates between generations is far too large.

Okay then what about the suicides and repression of ones own sexuality? What about homosexual people being disproportionately impoverished and therefore far more likely to die of illness especially as they age?
Am I missing something? You only brought up HIV while Reagan was responsible for so much more. It felt as though you were discounting Reagan's impact on homosexuals by limiting its scope and I wanted to clarify that it was far more broad. This feels reasonable to me

I think you're downplaying the importance of formative years to an individual's sexual identity by quite a lot.
I think a lot of that is made up from people who are queer as a fashion statement in lieu of possessing an actual personality, but that is anathema for the discourse so let's not talk about it.

I know a lot of zoomers that are at least half gay, some quite a bit more so.
If each friend in a group of four had an independent and identical 25% chance of being gay, the probability that at least two of them are gay is about 26%, I like those odds.
