Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

I mean. I think he's crazy, but for Trump to reach out to a random celebrity that he knows the name of and just start talking about state secrets is completely in line with things that already happened.

[–] axexrx@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Totally plausible trump saw a photo of him, like the one here, and saw his pale skin, shaved head, and just assumed he was a fellow fascist, and called him up to recruit him, and just started blabbing.

Kinda seems more plausible that coorgan just making it up and saying it for what... clout?

I mean that is what would make sense. It's just that this is exactly the kind of stuff the president does

[–] ZephyrXero@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

The two of them were both big into wrestling around the same time. Probably already buddies or something

[–] AbouBenAdhem@lemmy.world 31 points 2 months ago

Corgan then compared the situation to something he’s dealt with before. “It’s similar to when I talked about experiencing a shape shifter on Howard Stern,” he explained. “It became this thing where I was hunted in airports. ‘Please tell me the shapeshifter story!’”

That seems pretty close to the benign end of the scale of potential responses to claims of experiencing a shape-shifter.

[–] paraphrand@lemmy.world 22 points 2 months ago

I wonder if he’s friends with Tom DeLonge?

[–] hopesdead@startrek.website 21 points 2 months ago (9 children)

Look, Corgan is my favorite musician, Pumpkins my favorite band.

I just look past things like this.

[–] starik@lemmy.zip 19 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Caught any of his appearances with Alex Jones?

[–] hopesdead@startrek.website 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Again, I don’t pay attention to that stuff.

[–] sem@piefed.blahaj.zone 4 points 2 months ago

Maybe death of the author is right for you

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Really? They had like 3 good albums 30 years ago. Anything remotely recent has been the worst dogshit I've attempted to listen to.

[–] MJKee9@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Better than me... I've never made a good album.

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Fair enough. I probably came off as an asshole in my comment, I was just genuinely surprised someone could keep them as a favorite band after the last few albums they released. They were just awful.

[–] MJKee9@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

As you get older, the present begins to leave less and less of an impression... Making the past more vivid in your mind (ie the good old days). So OP is probably 40+....

[–] W3dd1e@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 months ago (4 children)

I agree with this completely. But for me, those 3 albums are better than almost everything else.

My favorite band too. Corgan just makes me embarrassed to say it out loud.

[–] PixelatedSaturn@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

I would to in that situation 😁

Cool music though.

[–] ChonkyLincoln@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 months ago

Same. Just Billy things …

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Mayonaise is one of the best tracks in rock, IMHO. Billy is obviously quite talented, but seemingly problematic as a person.

If you tune that kind of thing out, I get it. It's just going to ruin the music.

[–] W3dd1e@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 months ago

Mayonnaise is fantastic, but for me, the song right before Mayo is better. Geek USA is my favorite song of all time.

But, honestly, that whole album pretty damn good. You really can’t go wrong.

You see, life has been pretty doggone tough for our bro Cal.

[–] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 months ago

that's such a good photo

[–] mctoasterson@reddthat.com 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

At least he is wearing his seatbelt.

[–] the_crotch@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 months ago

But why is he dressed like chairman mao?

[–] Pudutr0n@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

He really does look like a pumpkin... Not that smashing though.

[–] Triumph@fedia.io 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Perhaps, I hadn't been paying any attention to him.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I don't think anyone really was since the '90s, but I recall looking him up again when he made an appearance in one of the Guitar Hero titles and discovering that he was already deep into wacko land.

[–] Triumph@fedia.io 3 points 2 months ago (3 children)

I have a personal story about his doing some charity work a long time ago, and im going to hold on to that one.

Impossible to tell under current circumstances.

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 12 points 2 months ago (1 children)

He really does look a lot like bill burr

[–] RaoulDuke25@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)
[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

He claims they are brothers

[–] W3dd1e@lemmy.zip 11 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Ah Billy Corgan. He is so cringe.

I LOVED Smashing Pumpkins. They were my favorite band (pre-2000 albums), but saying that with the way Corgan acts makes me embarrassed.

Still. “Geek USA” (from Siamese Dream) is one of the best songs of all time. Jimmy Chamberlain’s drumming is severely underrated. He deserves much more recognition than he gets.

[–] Pudutr0n@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

But he's so smashing...

[–] Critical_Drinking@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago

Smashing Psychosis

[–] pigup@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago

This dude is a raging narcissist of the covert or vulnerable type I'm not sure.

[–] l3ored@piefed.social 6 points 2 months ago

Hanging out with Tom Delonge too much recently.

[–] lemmylump@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

Bill

Motherfucker we got shit to deal with RN

Today!

[–] Neverbeaten@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I’ll always love the early albums, but I knew Billy lost the plot the first time he talked about and insisted that different paint colors on the same guitar make it sound different (noticeably different). He hasn’t been reality-based in many years.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 1 points 2 months ago

Lots of fart-smelling in the guitar world.

[–] MyMindIsLikeAnOcean@piefed.world 4 points 2 months ago

Billy Corgan has been crazy for a long time.
