I'm having trouble even imagining the demographic that thought an Eric Adams memecoin was a worthwhile investment in 2026.

Everyone who buys memecoins thinks they'll get out before the rug gets pulled.

[–] Kefla@hexbear.net 34 points 2 months ago (1 children)

This one was crazy because you had to be really on top of the memecoin game to even get in before the rug got pulled. Only true memeheads even managed to get scammed by this one

The grind never stops 💪💪😤

I'm convinced it's just publicly acceptable money laundering at this point

By the end of the year about 30% of the US GDP is going to be crypto rug pulls and scams and the other 70% is going to be tech companies just passing money between each other keeping the AI grift going

[–] OffSeasonPrincess@hexbear.net 26 points 2 months ago

Im gonna bet on polymarket about whether this happens

I can't be mad at people doing crypto scams. The environmental impact pisses me off, but not the scam. At this point it has to be expected and everyone just believes they'll get in on the Pump side of the Pump n' Dump

The environmental impact of proof-of-work is usually tied to the amount of transactions on the chain and the amount of computers crunching the numbers.

Bitcoin, for instance, makes the number crunching harder the more computers there are.

I don't imagine these scams are doing much to the environment, since very few people will be mining the coin.

Some other Crypos use proof-of-stake, which changes things up a bit.

Just cuz he's not the mayor anymore, doesn't mean he stopped being the Main Character.

Anyone who falls for this kind of scam deserves it

[–] WhatDoYouMeanPodcast@hexbear.net 10 points 2 months ago

I would go as far as to say it's more obvious of a scam than hawk tuah coin. It also happened after that one. At least hawk tuah would have had the pretense of trying to get rich off the next sucker, but it turned out you're the sucker.

Who wants NYC coin outside of NYC? What? You have one of the limited 4 trillion NYC smashed pennies of the future? Are you expecting literal Donald Trump to pump your bags as a win condition?

[–] Posadas@hexbear.net 8 points 2 months ago

speech-r — The people who fell for this thinking they were getting in on the pump

Is that the crypto coin that was supposed to solve antisemitism? I think job done!

[–] LENINSGHOSTFACEKILLA@hexbear.net 6 points 2 months ago

combating antisemitism by playing into antisemitic tropes hell yeah

I feel bad for Coffeezilla sometimes. What can you even say now that crime is legal?

[–] Posadas@hexbear.net 4 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Atleast he'll make some Jake Paul videos after that defamation lawsuit gets resolved in his favor.

[–] Mardoniush@hexbear.net 8 points 2 months ago (1 children)

How did people not see that coming in the year of our lord 2026?

[–] oliveoil@hexbear.net 8 points 2 months ago

I think people assume they can pump and dump before the other chumps.

So basically, scammers losing money to other scammers.
