Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

This fascist regime has clearly been planning for a while to send the military to attack american cities.

If they feel confident in using the military instead of the death squads they've been building under ice, that implies they are optimistic about their control over the military, or at least ready to test that control.

Anyone who thinks there's an electoral path away from fascism is deluding themselves. They'll shoot us dead in the street before giving up power.

General strike. Nationwide.

[–] Rentlar@lemmy.ca 11 points 1 month ago

Start with Minnesota, this Friday. Just like ICE's invasion and occupation, start targeted and then spread.

[–] Hegar@fedia.io 9 points 1 month ago (1 children)

That's definitely something to work towards but a general strikes requires years of planning, organising, network building, and just fucktons of money. People still need to eat and pay rent. People will be fired and need help fighting it. The regime is likely to injure and maybe kill.

There hasn't been a general strike in living memory.

A general strike takes time, it's not something we can just do. Rushing it and fucking it up would be a huge win for the fascists.

Those who can, stock up like you should have already for a national disaster. Maybe double.

Then stock up again for donations to food banks and soup kitchens.

If a general strike did happen, it would take less time than eviction proceedings for any given household.

And they can’t fire and evict everyone. The point of a general strike is to demonstrate exactly that.

Every second of coverage that Jacob Frey gets is a centrist distraction from a sincere conversation about what's happening in Minneapolis. He is uninterested in doing anything that helps anyone vulnerable in this city. He bumbled his way through the uprising in 2020 (on the side of "restoring order"), he constantly had homeless communities bulldozed, and now again he's distracting people with stern-sounding rhetoric while doing nothing to support the community.

The precinct map for the 2025 mayoral election (which Frey won) overlays neatly with the city map of ICE activity this month. That is, the parts of the city that supported Frey are being less affected by ICE raids and kidnappings. He doesn't care about protecting immigrants and BIPOC community members because they're not "his people."

Can anyone recommend local sources to follow?

Been a while since I've lived in MN but the Star Tribune is the big one

I was thinking something more on the ground, not run for profit

[–] jim@lemmy.org 9 points 1 month ago

Frey is a simp for fascism. His non-committal to abolishing ice is a clear message.

[–] RabbitBBQ@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago (2 children)

It wasn't that long ago that basically everyone would be against the idea of deploying active-duty soldiers against U.S. citizens.

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It wasn't that long ago that being a fascist was absolutely unacceptable in mainstream society, and the idea that the USA and other wealthy countries could fall to fascism seemed fantastic.

Authoritarianism doesn't flourish in times of economic prosperity, historically. Techno-feudalists of the contemporary era require economic despair of the populace to provide "the solution" of their supremacy.

[–] Fedizen@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Pretty much the only people who like it are glued to screens blasting nonstop billionaire propaganda like the kid in clockwork orange. There is a significant amount of people who just aren't online and don't work in an office who will be suprised by all of this.

Me: wondering how the supreme court is going to repeal the 3rd amendment after the hotels burn down.

If the government calls the national guarding into a mission, the president cannot use them for whatever the fuck he wants. We just have some Democrats that rather send harsh letters and posts instead of stepping up.

[–] ccunning@lemmy.world 17 points 1 month ago

They’ve put two active duty army infantry battalions on alert; not national guard.

[–] MnemonicBump@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

We're no talking about the National Guard, we're talking about two 11th Airborne Infantry units who has specifically trained for arctic warfare. This is how the period of truly monstrous civil conflict that we all know is coming starts. This right here.

And in terms of Democrats stepping up: Walz has already staged the Minnesota National Guard and have them at the ready to defend the protesters against ICE and U.S. Army

[–] jaxxed@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Airborne don't really make sense here, but I guess they are general purpose troops.

Maybe they'll launch for Greenland, using Minn. As a distraction (Malcome Nance.)

[–] Eldritch@piefed.world 13 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Trump isn't supposed to be able to deploy them without consulting the governor. But that's not been respected, so I doubt that will be either. But I hope so.

[–] dan1101@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

Yep tradition and courtesy left the government the day trump was sworn in for the second time.

[–] frongt@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 month ago

Federalizing the guard doesn't require anything from the governor.

[–] nixfreak@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 month ago

Why is that downvoted? It’s the truth.
