The thing with these fashion trends is that there's always a percentage of people that never move on. I'm sure that these aliens can find the guys they're looking for somewhere.

[–] FoxyFerengi@startrek.website 51 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I had a professor who never moved on from his hipster phase. Every once in a while he'd switch it up and wear tech bro sports jackets and graphic tees, like he was trying to branch out but he was more comfy with what he cultivated on his twenties and thirties lol

[–] 14th_cylon@lemmy.zip 25 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

wait, what, hipsters are not cool anymore?

[–] Deconceptualist@leminal.space 21 points 2 weeks ago

They were, until everyone else started doing it.

[–] CidVicious@piefed.zip 9 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

More like that's not what hipsters look like anymore. There's always hipsters, although given how strongly that word is associated with the 2010s they'll probably get called something else.

I haven’t seen a scene girl with stripey hair in so long.

[–] MeThisGuy@feddit.nl 28 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

probably all turned to goth

[–] Deconceptualist@leminal.space 38 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Yes goth is the next pokemon stage before evolving into witchy crochet cat lady.

[–] KindnessIsPunk@lemmy.ca 11 points 2 weeks ago

🎶It's the circle of life🎶

[–] Grabthar@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago

There is also the Goth2Boss evolution pathway as an alternative.

[–] ArsonButCute@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Saw one at the grocery store a few weeks ago.

[–] tanisnikana@lemmy.world 13 points 2 weeks ago

All is well in god’s earth.

[–] Kepion@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 2 weeks ago

Most of the scene girls I've seen/hung out with are newer edition girls.

[–] PoopingCough@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago

They're definitely out there. TikTok is actually pretty good for all these little micro niche communities at least as far as seeing people who are still keeping the culture alive.

[–] Squirrelsdrivemenuts@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Belgium! They are all in Belgium.

My favourite kind of guy was always the Ed Hardy guy. Guys with bedazzled shirts, ripped jeans and blonde hair. Even better when they were 40+ years old. I think these people just vanished

That guy works in our building. He's got the beard, rolled up trouser legs to show pleather boots, tattoos and the hat, the whole nine yards. Btw, he's vegan

[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 51 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Btw, he's vegan

that seals the deal, he is the one.

Good for him.

[–] FireWire400@lemmy.world 14 points 2 weeks ago (5 children)

Ask him if he uses Arch btw. I want him to be a crossover hipster/neckbeard nerd

[–] piranhaconda@mander.xyz 7 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (3 children)

Fuck. I'm catching strays over here.

I briefly had a manbun in 2011 before they were a huge thing (I was like 20 or so and just wanted to grow my hair out, give me a break), I've had a curled handlebar mustache for shits and giggles, and I now use an Arch based OS (CachyOS btw).

Deep Space 90s

[–] SaraTonin@lemmy.world 35 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I remember when s guy tried to sue a news outlet for using his picture without permission for an article about how hipsters all look the same…and then it turned out that it wasn’t a picture of him

[–] abbadon420@sh.itjust.works 28 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Trends are cyclic. They could just wait it out.

[–] Rooster326@programming.dev 27 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Or, you know, just go to Portland

I feel like this is the newer variant Performative males for this era?

I think the "hipster" look is alive an well with all the guys who opened overpriced barbecue or taco joints that serve whiskey and tequila. Trends fade because the people who keep to them grow old and the younger generation does something different to not be "like their parents" or gen whatever the fuck category people are bulked into.

Eventually performative males will eventually open matcha and boba tea shops. To than be replaced by something else people can make fun of for 10 years.

Also dads who took up brewing as a hobby (at least around here)

TBF I have nothing against the hipster look - except for the various beards and 'staches. I tried it: a sculpted beard is a fuckton of work, like a second hairdo basically. It also requires appropriate growth; not all men have it.

[–] MeThisGuy@feddit.nl 5 points 2 weeks ago

yeh and keeping the 3rd area properly trimmed takes fucking practice.
stakes are much higher on that one.

I wish. Everyone's doing those little mustaches now. We've stumbled backwards from the peak fashion of the Lumberjack Sheek 1970s to the Saddam Lip look of the 1980s.

I must have missed my ride back to the mothership.

[–] FenrirIII@lemmy.world 12 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Guy with a baseball cap, beard, and sunglasses is default mode these days

[–] Dasus@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

"wdy mean they're all wearing clothes and have hair on their bodies"

Edit 14h laters; none of the aliens even have beards

[–] tmyakal@infosec.pub 9 points 2 weeks ago (5 children)

A decade? I thought it was closer to two decades.

[–] The_Picard_Maneuver@piefed.world 15 points 2 weeks ago

I feel like I was still seeing hipsters up until the mid 2010s.

[–] Dadifer@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago

I interviewed for a surgery residency in Brooklyn in 2014, and one of the attendings came with a huge beard, flannel shirt, the whole deal.

[–] whotookkarl@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 2 weeks ago

Some say fashion is cyclical, but maybe it's topology is triangular, or a Klein bottle.
