We'd been keeping them at bay for decades at the isthmus, if memory serves? Then a bunch of, ahem, "budget cuts" prevented keeping it up and they spread like wildfire

Yeah, DOGE was like "What is this? These stupid liberals are farming nuclear parasites! That must be fraud, waste, and abuse. Let's cut its funding."

Ironically one of the drugs that prevents this is ivermectin.

[–] TheGoldenV@lemmy.world 73 points 4 days ago (3 children)

Bet you a fiver that since it’s actually for that purpose the MAGAts fight against it.

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 22 points 4 days ago (1 children)

"It's a liberal plot to use up all the ivermectin before bird flu breaks out! Which is... uh... another liberal plot. But that's beside the point!"

Nah they willing self administered that neurotoxin instead of getting a simple vaccine. We've been through this already. They're against anything they're told is good for them.

Ah, so the worm in RFK's head has been playing the long game

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 4 points 4 days ago

Maybe he'll let its friends move in and finish the job.

[–] Quibblekrust@thelemmy.club 33 points 4 days ago

It's the screwworm.

[–] bagsy@lemmy.world 26 points 4 days ago (1 children)

So wierd that flesh eating parasite is the least troubling headline today.

[–] Grass@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 days ago

Flesh eating worms! Coming to a neighbouring country near you soon!

[–] zabadoh@ani.social 28 points 4 days ago

Cattle ranchers, have the day you voted for...

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 31 points 4 days ago

One of those, "Everyone's fired. Oh wait, shit, come back to work!", situations that seem to be gaining in popularity recently

The don't need the CDC, just tell ICE they are illegals.

Ya see, Trump is woke and is waging a war on cattle farming as a secret agent of the Vegans and Climate activists. Cattle methane emissions are going way down and diets will have less meat.

[–] Sims@lemmy.ml 2 points 3 days ago

Damn, I got it all wrong ! Thanks anyway :-/

[–] Deceptichum@quokk.au 10 points 4 days ago

Is it weird that I'm cheering for a flesh-eating parasite?

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 6 points 4 days ago

Don't worry, it's just texas 🤷‍♀️ the cowboys can handle it with their guns, I guess /s

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 5 points 4 days ago

Oh boy, and you've got RFK Jr on the case.

[–] billwashere@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

I hear those pair nicely with the brain eating ones.

LLM warning for those who are triggerable.

Broad Definition of "Wound": The fly doesn't need a major injury. It can lay eggs in something as tiny as a tick bite, a mosquito bite, a small scratch, or a shaving cut.

Natural Openings: The fly will lay eggs in or near the nose, mouth, eyes, ears, and genitals. In these cases, no "wound" is necessary; the larvae hatch and burrow directly into the moist tissue of the orifice.

Kind and of scary, just wake up one day and feel something nomming away inside your eyelid.
